Edit the Darwinia config file manually to fix the dsound error/crash at start-up.

The path to this file is;


linux:  ~/.cxgames/[bottle_name]/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/[steam_username]/darwinia/preferences.txt

Mac:  ~/Library/Application Support/Crossover Games/Bottles/[bottle_name]/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/[steam_username]/darwinia/preferences.txt


Note: copy/backup an original of this file somewhere before you begin in case something goes wrong.


Open this file in a plain-text editor, and edit the sound options so;

SoundLibrary = null
SoundMixFreq = 22050
SoundMasterVolume = 255
SoundChannels = 16
SoundHW3D = 1
SoundSwapStereo = 1
SoundMemoryUsage = 2
SoundBufferSize = 256
SoundDSP = 0

Once this is done, save the file and try starting Darwinia again - sound may still be
a little choppy/static prone, but it's acceptable and gets around the start-up crash.


Note: The file is formatted with CR/LF at end of lines (a Dos/Windows thing) and so
if after editing this file you still get crashing/same error, it could  be that you've
inadvertently removed the CR/LF from the end of lines and the program can no
longer parse the preferences.txt file. If you get stuck, simply delete the file altogether
and using the Steam GUI, verify the game installation - it should download a new
copy of the file for you.
