Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Firestorm Tips

As the free release comes with no installer, everything has to be done manually.
If you haven't already done so, download the file 'OfficialCnCTiberianSun.rar' ...see;

Prepare a new bottle;


1. Start cxsetup/cxbottlemanager. Create a new bottle using the winXP bottle profile.


Note:

     This title only supports 640x480/800x600 fullscreen resolutions, at 4:3 aspect. If you
     have a widescreen or 16:9/10 display type or otherwise cannot use a fullscreen 4:3
     aspect resolution, you will have to run  things in windowed mode (Emulate a virtual
     desktop) for the game to start/run.


    To do this, use cxsetup to configure the bottle, and then use winecfg to configure
    wine to run in windowed mode ('Emulate a virtual desktop');


  0. Start  cxsetup

  1. Highlight the bottle you created above in the first step

  2. Click on 'Configure' => 'Control Panel' => 'winecfg' -- the Wine Configuration GUI will appear




  3. Now click on 'Graphics' tab => tick  'Emulate a virtual desktop'




  4. After enabling virtual desktop mode, you will see 'Desktop size' element becomes active => change this to 640 x 480




  5. Click on 'Apply' => 'Ok' => 'Ok'

  6. Exit cxsetup



Unpack/install the game archive files:

When you unpack the OfficialCnCTiberianSun.rar archive, you will end up with
a directory named 'EA Games' which contains all the files necessary to play/run
the game. You must copy (or unpack) this directory into the following location;

~/.cxgames/[bottle_name]/drive_c/Program Files/            (where [bottle_name] is the name of the bottle created in the first step)


Create desktop/menu launcher shortcuts;


0. Start  cxsetup

1. Highlight the bottle you created above in the first step

2. Click on 'Configure' => 'Control Panel' => 'Run'

3. Use the Browse button, and navigate to the following file location;


~/.cxgames/tiberian_sun/drive_c/Program Files/EA Games/Command & Conquer The First Decade/Command & Conquer(tm) Tiberian Sun(tm)/SUN/Game.exe


4. Highlight the file 'Game.exe' => Open => Create Shortcut => Close

5. Exit cxsetup

You should now have a menu-item/desktop-icon named 'Game' you can start the title with. (you can rename this this shortcut/icon if you desire)


Using networking with the game;

For the networking component to work at all, you will have to do the following
steps as well. I'm not saying networking will *work* ; these instructions are the
COG analogy to steps described in the above link.

0. Start  cxsetup

1. Highlight the bottle you created above in the first step

2. Click on 'Configure' => 'Control Panel' => 'Run'

3. In the Command: string-box type the word   regedit   

4. Now click on Run -- the windows registry editor will appear.

5. In the registry editor, select  Registry -> Import Registry File ...navigate to the following file location;

 ~/.cxgames/tiberian_sun/drive_c/Program Files/EA Games/Command & Conquer The First Decade/tibsun_regadd.reg

6. Highlight the  tibsun_regadd.reg   file and click on Open  => Exit the registry editor.


Note: although I've not tested the network side of things, the above registry addition (which is required)
seems to work correctly...refer to the above link after completing this....good luck!
