If you installed the DOS version of Command & Conquer Gold using the C4P recipe provided, you have in fact installed a self-contained DOS environment for any number of DOS games.
The environment so presented is comprised of four distinctly separate layers -- for more information about how all this works, read the tips&tricks on the C4 page for DosShell itself.....here, we will just concern ourselves with the 4th stage -- configuring DosShell to start Command & Conquer Gold.
1. Using your Crossover Games menu/shortcut, start DosShell -- the DosShell GUI will appear in a a emulated desktop window sized 800x600 (see notes below)
2. During the C4P installation process, the game files themselves have been copied into one of the following locations ;
6. If there are any other parameters to pass to the -DOS .com file, specify them in the string box provided - usually it's safe to leave this blank.
7. The version of CnC Gold installed does -not- come with an icon - google is your friend here, so if you find a suitable .ico file for this game you can specify it here and it will show in the DosShell GUI.
8. The Description field is optional -- click on OK when done.
9. Now double-click on the game icon in DosShell and the game should launch.
Note: Due to differences in the way Mac and linux handle 4:3 aspect fullscreen modes, the emulated desktop mode of wine configurator is turned on to make sure all machines/platforms end up with a working result. You cam disable Emulated Virtual Desktop in the Wine Configurator if you wish to run fullscreen mode (which the Mac handles a lot better than linux when faced with a non 4:3 aspect primary display).
