Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far Tips

Installation on Mac

The process of installing on a mac is not as straightforward as the above post implies. the reason for this is that os x mounts the cd with the hfs file tree, which gives you the DATA folder and a folder called MAC that contains a classic installation program that won't do any good in crossover.

to mount the joliet (windows) file tree do the following: (always without ' " ')
insert close combat cd
open termianl.app
enter "mount" -> gives you a list of all mounted volumes. there should be an entry like /dev/diskXsY /Volumes/Close Combat note the /dev/diskXsY for later.
enter "cd /Volumes" -> changes the current directory you are working in to /Volumes
enter "ls -a" -> this gives you a list of all files (visible and invisible) in the directory. should look like this: .  .. Close Combat [Your bootdisk name]
enter "sudo umount '/Volumes/Close Combat'" -> unmounts the disk without removing it from the drive
enter "mount_cd9660 /dev/diskXsY '/Volumes/Close Combat'" -> mounts the cd with joliet filesystem. you might have to restart the finder at this point because mine didn't recognize the newly mounted cd. do so by using apple+alt+esc and clicking restart.

now the cd is mounted again and if you browse it you'll notice the mac folder is gone and there's a windows folder instead.

launch crossover and make a new bottle. then open the wineconfig pannel and select drives. add a new drive and select cd-rom as type. hit browse and point the new drive to /Volumes/Close Combat.

now install the game.

after installation run the game. if you get an error saying something format for stream, go to the folder containing the bottle in finder and find the file system.reg. open it in textedit and search for the close combat entry. there's a playvideo key that reads 01,00,00,00. change it to 00,00,00,00 to disable video.

the game for me only runs in windowed mode (wine config) but sound and video are okay.

you will have to unmount the cd with "sudo umount '/Volumes/Close Combat'" in terminal and delete the directory in /Volumes with "rmdir 'Close Combat'". also you might have to repeat the mounting procedure above every time you insert the cd...

this procedure makes the game not worth playing for me as it is a real hazzle and i'm unable to write a shellscript to do the above. bronze is my vote.
