The Steam version of Civilization IV works flawlessly with recent versions of CrossOver (note: I haven't tested multiplayer or in-game voice chat).
If you have the physical game, you can upgrade to the Steam version for free by going to 2K Games and submitting a support request. They will ask you to take a photo of the physical game together with the support ticket number and your e-mail address.
