Mini Big Fish Games HowTo - CXG 9.1 Mac & linux
This is a quick howto one how to use the Big Fish Game Manager (BFGM) in Crossover Games
Note: Do not use the Big Fish Game Manager's inbuilt links and buttons to purchase or
download game titles - this is currently broken in crossover. Instead, use your -system-
web browser to download the game installer to your harddrive, be it the demo or full
version of the game(s).
1 If you haven't done so already, install the Big Fish Game Manager app first via the C4P on
on this page - once that installation process is complete, you should have a bottle named
'Big Fish
Games Manager'.
2. Using your system web-browser, login to your Big Fish Games account if you are going to
purchase a game
(or visit the site and download a demo installer).
Note: Safari wasn't handling the login part very well -- I use
firefox on the Mac a lot of the time.
Note: If you go to 'PC Downloads' on the BFG site and click on a
title to download, *if* a Mac port
of that game exists, the site logic will detect your OS and redirect the
download call to the Mac version.
If an Mac port of a BFG title exists, it's probably advisable to use the
Mac port in OSX instead of using
the win32 version via crossover.
Mac:
Once you have downloaded the installer, start crossover games, and then go
Configure->Manage Bottles
In the cxsetup GUI that appears, highlight the 'Big Fish Games Manager'
bottle in the left panel, then click
the Applications tab -> Install Software.
In the cxinstaller GUI that appears, choose 'Other Application' then
'Select an installer', and navigate to
the installer file you downloaded above and click 'Use this installer'
then click Install -- the BFGM should
startup and begin downloading/installing the game itself.
linux:
Once you have downloaded the installer, start cxsetup (Manage Bottles)
In the cxsetup GUI that appears, highlight the 'Big Fish Games Manager'
bottle in the left panel, then click
the Applications tab -> Install Software.
In the cxinstaller GUI that appears, choose 'Other Application'
then
'Select an installer', the select 'Choose
Installer File' and navigate to the installer file you downloaded above and click 'Open'
then click Install -- the
BFGM should startup and begin downloading/installing the game itself.
Known issues
*Can hang/stall on exit
*Sometimes can't restart game even though it worked before
*One user reports a hang/stall on a BFG install
Workaround;
Force Quit bottle/application
linux -- killall -9 :bfggameservices.exe or killall -9 :bfgclient.exe
