a) When installing the game, deselect the option to install DirectX.
Then, once the game has finished installing, install Microsoft DirectX Runtime- Modern from the Runtime Support Components section into the same bottle.
b) The d3dxWHATEVER error is because DirectX is not installed- therefore install the DirectX Runtime component as above.
