This is for security purposes but it nags wine in many ways and it is better to deactivate it or put in a more permisive mode.
In order to fix the Kindle problem with Ubuntu 12.04 do the following steps:
Run the following command in terminal:
echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
and then try running Kindle again, library now should download right. If this works, you can make this change permanent by editing the ptrace conf file in sysctl:
sudo gedit /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf
"gedit" can be replaced with your text editor of choice
