As far as I can establish, Adobe Digital Editions 2.x, the latest ADE version, does not work with Wine/Crossover. This is because ADE has moved the underlying technology to a .NET technology that is not yet supported by Wine/Crossover.
ADE 1.7.x does still work very well with Crossover. If you download the 1.7.x version from here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/d...
(or, in case that one stops working, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/k... )
you should be able to install this in Crossover and open your DRM-protected epub/ascm files.
Running Crossover 12 on Ubuntu 12.10 with ADE 1.7.2.1131.

Update 2020: This is no longer correct. I have just managed to get 2.0.1 (available here: https://www.adobe.com/support/... ) working fine.
Linux Crossover 19.0.0
Windows 7 bottle
With additional dependencies added through Advanced Options of: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and Core Fonts
Then all worked well, including registering with an Adobe ID and downloading protected books from ascm files.
I've submitted a new app for 2.0.1 with this: https://www.codeweavers.com/co...
