Converting .PDF files for Acrobat 5.X compatibility
Acrobat 5 only supports PDF revision 1.4 because of its age. Fortunately, many tools exist to facilitate the conversion of modern documents to a compatible format.
One open source utility that can perform the conversion is GhostScript, which is available on macOS (Homebrew) and Linux.
