To even have a chance of installing, 3dsmax needs to be installed into a Windows XP bottle at least.
And to be able to get something working, you should make sure you have Internet Explorer 6 SP1 installed in the bottle you are going to install 3dsmax into.
Unfortunately it is unknown to me why the installation will not continue, ie. exits even before the installer window is opened.
