Crossover v8.1.3 MAJOR issue

Before the Crossover 8.1.3 version I've been running ZPS somewhat smoothly, a few occasional hick-ups but nothing major (nothing that lowering graphics properties can't fix). But since the new Crossover 8.1.3, as SOON as i connect to my desired server the game ALWAYS crashes, freezes for a good 10secs then BOOM crashes. Nothing seemed wrong with my Macbook Pro (2009 edition), i verified Disc Permissions and repaired them to see if anything was the matter but nothing.

And this JUST IN, I reinstalled Steam and now that i try to change some options (lower graphics settings, screen resolution) it doesnt even manage to complete these settings successfully and just freezes then crashes, anyone else having the same issue for this game???

I also defragmented the game cache and validated it via Steam to get "optimal performance" but the freezes and crashes still persist. I submitted a ticket about this and i hope it gets resolved soon before winter break starts

Two things:

1) What version of CrossOver Games had you been using prior to upgrading to 8.1.3? You can try reverting to that; does Zombie Panic work any better?

2) Game updates can be downloaded by Source at any time. These can break games that used to work fine. Check to see if the game was updated around the time that it started to fail. (Steam > select Zombie Panic > right-click > View update news)

I was using 8.1.1/2 and those worked fine. I'm not too sure about the Steam updates though. I know there is a way to disable automatic updates for a Steam game but will that prevent me from playing online once those updates are no longer automatically downloaded but manually downloaded?? Another question, will this change in update preferences be in sync with my PC for example (since i do game on my PC as well)?? First these updates screwed with L4D2 and now with the only other game that manage to pull off a great time without the glory of L4D2.

In reference to reverting back to the older Crossover Games 8.0 from the recent 8.1.3, the problems remain the same.

If going back to earlier versions of CrossOver Games doesn't help, then that suggests the problem is not due to the upgrade to 8.1.3.

Rather, it sounds like it might be due to a change to Zombie Panic. We just put up an unsupported 8.1.4 build. It's unsupported because it's not thoroughly tested. It is intended to fix problems with Left 4 Dead 2, a regression introduced with 8.1.3 for Guild Wars on ATI Macs, and some other specific issues. However, you might try it to see if it helps with Zombie Panic. It's probably a good idea to archive your bottles before upgrading, just in case.

I think i found the nature of the problem. I did submit a ticket about this issue, and Jack Phinney recommended the change in launch options from direct x 9.0 to 8.1, i didnt think of implementing that, NOT for ZPS. But i did anyway, and the game now works like a charm, at least thats what 25mins into the game on a semi-heavy server showed me. It seemed that when the game is running in widescreen mode (aspect ratio 16:10), whether in full-screen or in a small window, crashes are BOUND to happen just 2secs into the game! But when normal aspect ratio is used (4:3), windowed or in full-screen, it works with no problems, even the fps are higher.

In conclusion, widescreen mode is no good for ZPS, keep it at normal (4:3) @ direct x 8.1, maybe this is something the Crossover games staff should consider upon launching the new build of the software to run this game on widescreen from better visuals =]

EDIT: This thread can be closed now.

How do I install ZPS? I loaded the game but cant find the files, it just shows up as hl2.ex just the same as half life 2. Please help me and give me step my step instructions on how you installed ZPS on your mac

Hi,

I'm a bit unclear what problem you're having here - ZPS is installed via
the Steam UI, and once complete, a launch icon should appear in your games
list in the Steam GUI itself...but then, you say you've gone looking for
the files etc etc...so I'm unclear what you're trying to do --- I'm just
reinstalling it on the Mac here now to check for sure...

Cheers!

I try to make a shortcut on my desktop, but it will not show. When I search for it in my finder it does not show. When I go to the steam games list and launch it, it launches but the screen goes black and nothing happens. Please help :(
