Warning: Failed to Connect to update service, official fix not working

so, i've tried changing the URL in the WoWsLauncher.cfg to "update.worldofwarships.com" but everytime i open the launcher, i get the same error message saying that it cannot connect to the update service (even though it LITERALLY just downloaded the 1.0.10 update...) when i press "Play" anyway, it says "Critical Error: unable to launch game. File "worldofwarships.exe" is missing. the application cannot continue. for details, see log file. and when i check the config file again, the URL that I JUST TYPED THERE, is suddenly gone.

oh, and when i look in the folder "World_of_Warships" located in my documents folder, there isn't a worldofwarships.exe file. even though i downloaded the wrapper from here: http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/38129-playing-on-a-mac-dstuds-guides-and-troubleshooting/ all thats there is he WOWslauncher.exe

any help you can offer would be appreciated,

I think there is something else wrong with the WoWSLauncher.cfg. I "installed" the launcher using a custom wineskin wrapper (right from the windows exe file) and it appears to work just fine with the codeweavers wrapper.

Basically I did this:

  • Downloaded the wineskin winery program
  • created a blank wrapper with the 1.9.11 engine
  • downloaded the worldofwarships.exe file (the windows version of the game)
  • opened my new blank wrapper, clicked "install software", and selected the wows.exe file
  • clicked through the setup wizard
  • let it run the launcher update, as soon as it started to initialize the torrent session for the full game I closed it
  • went inside the wrapper (right click, show package contents) to: drive_c/Games/WoWS
  • Clicked and dragged the WoWSLauncher.cfg file from there, and put it in my actual WoWS folder (Documents/WoWS) replacing the one that was in there.
  • Ran the game, sunk ships, wore my sunglasses at night

EDIT: It was a lot of work for one stupid file, so I made it available on my google drive for anyone that wants it. Or just do it yourself if you're not too keen on "some internet guy"'s file

So I followed directions about how to change patch_info_urls in WOWsLauncher.cfg, but the URL seems to already be correct. I have downloaded what should be the most recent file from WOWS main page.

Have you sent us a ticket to ports@codeweavers.com?

If not, you can do so and we'll append your ticket to the current bug that our developers are working on to deal with this issue.

If you're seeing this error when launching WoWs: ‘The data obtained from the update service is incorrect.'

(This is happening for first-time or fresh launch of WoWs), then you can try this workaround:

-Go to Documents>World_of_Warships folder
-Open WoWsLauncher.cfg in TextEdit
-Go to line: <supported_chains>f0</supported_chains>
-Change the f0 to f11.
-Save the changes, then close that file.

Then launch WoWS and that should get the updates going in the launcher.

Let us know how that goes.

If you haven't written in to ports@codeweavers.com, then you can do so and we'll append your ticket to the known bug and keep you updated to any progress made. We'll also send you any upcoming fixes when available.
