I have this same exact problem! This is interesting as I didn't think this was a Crossover issue.
So frustrating.

When I start Wow.exe with wine I seem to get past the password entry but it then crashes similarly to what is being mentioned on the wine forums.

I can confirm this issue. I have tried several ways getting it to work but no chance.

Wine is working fine.

I get the same error as dablackfox, but in my case, running the exe with the Crossover version of WINE still gives me the error.

I checked the WoW forums, and it appears even some of the Windows users are affected, too.

Hibba.

I'm also having this problem. I've seen it before, when I didn't have the correct ports open on my firewall... opening
the ports usually fixed the problem. But the ports are open and I get the same problem.

Same issue here.

Works fine in wine.

I tried to log in using my "old" info (that is, my username before switching to the battle.net account name) and it actually made it past that screen and stayed on "Authenticating" for a while. After leaving the computer for several minutes, I come back to a message that said "You have been disconnected from the server," or something to that effect.

Perhaps this means that it is a Battle.net issue?

Hibba.

Before applying the latest WoW patch I was able to log in to WoW using either Crossover Games, Cedega, or an older version of Wine. After applying that latest WoW patch all three ended up displaying the same error message and URL mentioned above.

Upgrading Wine to version wine-1.2-rc4 let me log in to WoW without a problem, with nothing else having been changed.

Hi,

Just another FYI...

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?t=25;mhl=83243#msg83243

Can anyone check that angle here?

Cheers!

I got it working by following that thread.

The gist of it is you need a kernel at or below 2.6.32 or below, and replace the
wldap32.dll in your system32 folder with the one from here:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?wldap32

You'll then need to run cxsetup from the bin dir and run the command winecfg. Once in there
you need to add the wldap32.dll into the libraries.

Hope that helps.
Christopher.

I'm running OpenSUSE 11.2 and cxgames v9. I got WoW running my creating softlinks for some ldap libraries. When I manually ran wow with the following command:
/opt/cxgames/bin/wine --bottle wow --verbose wow.exe
I noticed errors when cxgames tried to load the wldap32.dll library. The errors complained about certain unix ldap libraries not being found, i.e. "file not found". However I found that the correct version of the libraries existed, but not with the identical filenames that wldap32.dll was expecting. So I created the appropriate softlinks and voila! WoW was functional again. I still blame the 3.3.5 warcraft patch though since nothing changed beforehand. I suspect the introduction of RealID by Blizzard caused some authentication changes under the hood which caused this issue.

Hey all, it looks like a Linux user in the WoW forums found a fix; it worked for me.

See posts number 1 and 131 (it's on page 7) here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=25552676571&sid=1&pageNo=1.
