Realy bad Performance only during battle

Hi

I have a Core i7 3820 with 16GB Ram and a Nvidia gtx670. I am runnning ubuntu 12.10 and have the 310 drivers installed. I am Using Crossover 12.1.0 for Linux (dah... ;)) All is running fine and all other games run well.

I have WOT installed and running fine until I enter a battle. During the countdown things are still fine and performance is at 60fps (v-Sync). As soon as the battle starts framerates drop to unplayable and gets worse as the battle continues. Once I die (which is inevetable as the game is unplayable) and I go back to the garage and things are back to normal and performance is great. I can rotate and soom in on the tank in the garage just as I would under Windows.

I have tried setting everything to minimal and also switched between fullscreen and windowed modes. Also I have tried both improved and standard graphics modes and all have the same effect mentioned above.

Does anone have an idea whats happening? I have read about others getting playable to good performance. I would be very happy if someone could help me figure out what is going wrong.

Thanks

The 310 driver come with v-sync enabled by default. Disable it in nvidia-settings. Probably should disable v-sync in-game too and see how that goes.

Hi Silviu,

thanks for the reply. I have disabled vsync in game but am still gettings frame rates of about 8-11fps in game.

I changed OpenGL Settings "Sync to VBlank" to disabled and now I get more than 60fps in glxgears. But in World of Tanks its still in the single Digit fps area :/ During the count down I get around 120fps with vsync disabled...

Thanks for trying though.

Carl

Just to update.

I installed Ubuntu 13.04 and the 313.26 nvidia driver.

Performance is much better. about 25-35 fps. Wich is playable. but only in Standard Graphics mode. in Improved fps is still very low...

Maybe this can help others with this issue.

Other than that I have no issues what so ever.

Well I found out that it is the 313 Nvidia Driver that makes a whole lot of difference in performance!
Used the following to install it on 12.10

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-313 nvidia-settings-313

Then setting the following two settings in the "nvidia X Server Settings" gives me playable frame rates with improved graphics and maximum detail:

  1. under OPENGL Settings -> set Image Settings to "High Performance"
-> remove check on "Sync to VBlank"
  2. under PowerMizer -> set Prefered Mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance"

I am very happy now and can play very well. Rock Solid stability and very playable performance with good looking Graphics...
I am using the latest crossover build: 12.1.2

What more could one ask for? :D

Hope this helps others.

Are you sure you did not pull in anything else from the edgers ppa along with the drivers?

Well I only ran the mentioned commands so as long as I don't run an upgrade it should only be those packages right?

I am sticking with 13.04 as it runs better and I only tested on 12.10 to see if the results are simmilar.

Carl

Cool. Glad that the 13.04 beta works well for you.
