WORDSearch works in Crossover Linux!

Installing WORDSearch9 for the "upgrade" download WS9Setup.exe

  1. In Crossover go to Manage Bottles and create a new 'winxp' bottle.

  2. Under the 'Runtime Components' section pick 'Internet Explorer 7'. In the next section make sure it's set to 'Install into a new winxp bottle' and run that install.

  3. Now install WORDSearch by choosing Other Application in the Community support tab. Pick your existing winxp bottle, and in the section below that 'Will install from...' pick Choose Installer File and select the setup file WS9Setup.exe.

At this point, you can 'restore' an old backup of a desktop and download whatever is available from the WORDSearch site. I have also successfully used step #3 to install online purchased books using the downloaded installers and CD based book installers. I have yet to come across a feature that is not working.

Hello Douglas,

I recently got a copy of WORDsearch 9 Seminary Student Edition. My first attempt to install was directly. My second attempt was to install IE7 first into a bottle, and then install WS9. The installation went smoothly, and I can also affirm that this program appears to be fully functional. I will be submitting a rating for it as I will be an advocate for it.

Would you do me a favor? Please run this command in a terminal window? I need to know what the results are as I am constructing a CrossTie for this program. Since I used the Seminay Student edition, I need to know what is reported about the regular edition. Running the command will not harm your installation, only give information about it.

Linux

Open a terminal and give the command (using 'WORDsearch' as the bottle--change to whatever your bottle is named):

~/cxoffice/bin/wine --bottle WORDsearch uninstaller.exe --list
or

/opt/cxoffice/bin/wine --bottle WORDsearch uninstaller.exe --list

Mac

Open a terminal:

Go to 'Programs'
Choose 'Run Command...'
Select the WORDsearch bottle
Click 'Open Shell'
Wait for the terminal to finish loading

Give the command:

wine --bottle WORDsearch uninstaller.exe --list

Thanks.

Anyone had any success installing LessonMaker on a Mac?

I don't have LessonMaker, but would the same method that works for WORDsearch9 (creating a bottle and installing Internet Explorer 7 in it, then installing LessonMaker in the same bottle) work?

I downloaded the demo copy of Crossover, and there was no option to install Internet Explorer. I couldn't locate it in any of the extras categories.

When you select the option "Install Windows Software" from the menu, you should come up to a window that has at the top, "Select an application to install." In the larger window below that, on the left side, you should see a search box. Below that is a listing which has bold title, "Supported Applications."

Either search for "Internet Explorer 7" or scroll down the list until you come to it. That will move it into the box which will then say, "Install Internet Explorer 7 (English version)." Below that, it will tell you that it "Will download the installer... ." and below that, it will tell you that it is going to install it into a new winxp bottle named "Internet Explorer 7." If you want to, you can click on that drop-down, and you will have the opportunity to change the name to something else (whatever name you want). after you have read the information about making sure the IE7 installer's checkbox for updates is NOT checked (it should default to empty, if so, leave it that way), then you can click on the Install button at the bottom and let CrossOver do the installation, giving approval to the various dialogs that will appear.

After that process completes, you can go through the same process, but instead of selecting from the list, scroll down until you reach the entry under "Unsupported Applications" which says, "Other Application." Select that option. Then on the line below the window, select your installation file. On the bar below that, select the bottle created in the first step as the location to which it should install your program. Click on "Install" again, and the program should then be installed.

As I said, not having a copy of the program, I can't verify that this proceedure will work, but it should. However, I am basing my post on Linux. It is possible that the Mac version is somewhat different, but there is no way for me to check. Please let me know whether it is successful for you or not.

Thanks. I will give that a try.

That did it! Thanks so much!
