WordPerfect Office 12 Forum

WordPerfect installs fine, and runs a few times without problems, but then only shows a menu bar at the bottom of the screen when launched. Clicking the Zoom button expands the window to the size of the screen--but it's completely blank. White. Occasionally when I click somewhere a menu or something will pop up, but usually absolutely nothing happens.

Any ideas? Help!

That's with the Experimental Mac Driver enabled. Without it, WP does...nothing. Not a darned thing on launch.

This problem is caused by a registry entry that becomes corrupt after exiting. To fix the
problem, you have to delete the corrupted registry entry before running WordPerfect.

You can use this AppleScript to automatically remove the registry entry and launch
WordPerfect. It should work, but I don't have WordPerfect to test it.

1. Open the AppleScript Editor (Finder → Go menu → Utilities → AppleScript Editor)

2. Paste the script into the editor
   Change CX_BOTTLE='WordPerfect Office 12' to the name of your WP12 bottle.

3. Save the script as an Application (Go to File menu → Save As)
   Save As: Run WordPerfect
   Where: Applications
   File Format: Application
   Click Save

Finder → Go menu → Applications → Run WordPerfect

1) The AppleScript worked perfectly. However, it does presuppose your bottle name for WP12 is "WordPerfect Office 12" . Re-starting WP now functions well. Sometimes I still must Force Quit the WP12 icon on the dock before re-starting.

2) By unchecking "Use enhanced file dialog" (Tools > Settings > Files check box) suggested in another thread one can handle the file-dialog "hang" issue that required a forced non-responding shutdown of the WP12 bottle.

3) In addition, I find using F9 (Font dialog) is necessary to change fonts in WP12 (but not in Presentations or Quattro Pro), because in WP12 the Toolbar Font and Size items simply rapidly flash and close without allowing one to select font and size. They work normally in Presentations and Quattro Pro.

4) Importing WPDos 5.1 DOS document tables requires re-setting the padding around the text; this is a nuisance, but workable; however, OpenOffice/LibreOffice, do just fine. The WP-Win ability to correctly import WP5.1 tables disappeared somewhere around WP-10 and Corel has never corrected it.

That said, thanks to Codeweavers and the great people helping folks like me in this forum, I at last have gotten WP-Win12 running on my Mac (I have continued to use WP-DOS since 1987 - still using 5.1).

Oops, forgot to mention that you need to edit the bottle name.

It should exit normally when you use the Apple menu (Alt+Command+Q). I don't believe this
allows WordPerfect to close and write the corrupted registry entry. Instead, it just kills
the process in a more brutal way, but I may be wrong.

Thanks heaps; that fixed the problem.

Except that renaming the bottle destroyed the links to the desktop app icons. Rebuilding them worked, but removed all the custom icons.
