There are a couple of goals with this project:
- To enable WiRES-X software to run under Linux supporting the HRI-200 and PDN modes.
- To enable WiRES-X software to run under Linux without the requirement for an attached HRI-200 or PDN.
2 gives us the possibility of running a WiRES-X room in the cloud - or at least in a hosted data center. Way better than using consumer home internet!
The problem is that Crossover does not support hardware past the basics: mouse, keyboard, audio, etc. Since it is actually running under Linux, the WiRES-X device drivers have no where to go. Therefore it will be necessary to provide some Linux code that will either connect the HRI-200/PDN to a Linux USB device and to write an HRI-200 stub that would respond as if it were an HRI-200. This last operation isn't very complex as we would not be trying to use the HRI-200 to do anything.
To make the room-in-the-cloud work, you'd still need a Yaesu-registered HRI-200 and its serial number.
Right now I'm trying to collect a cadre of folks with different skill sets that can pull this all together.
