I installed WinAmp 5.05 lite on SuSE 9.1 Professional tonight. The installation went great but the application fails on startup. I enjoy WinAmp 5 with my Winblows XP Professional computer but on Linux why not use XMMS which is nothing more that WinAmp 2.8 ported to Linux?
XMMS hasn't got as much features as Winamp (video, media library, etc.), which is why I would really like to see it running in Linux.
If XMMS has everything you need, I indeed recommend you to stay with it since it runs much better at the moment.
Correction, XMMS is NOT winamp ported to linux. XMMS is an independent project, which aims to emulate the winamp look-and-feel.
As far as features go, xmms still isn't anywhere close to winamp's.
Sorry to hear that you couldn't use winamp. Do you get any error messages as such? You could try using winamp 2.92. That seems to work better.
