Messed up textures

Dark Crusade installs fine from the DVD, and it runs without crashing.

However, many, but not all, textures and graphics are scrambled as if the colour mode is incorrect.

Here is a debug log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/601713/

Hi,

When posting to these forums about problems, you need to provide as much
information as possible to enable others to try helping you. That means you
need to tell folks what version of Crossover you are running, which platform/
OS version, and what videocard you machine has (and if linux, which video drivers
you are using). Without such data, one can only guess =)

Cheers!

Ubuntu 11.04 i386

CrossOver 10.1.0

joe@Joe-Haigh:~$ lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

Using default Intel driver provided by Ubuntu.

James.

I think it is related to DirectX. I've been trying DX9 and DX Modern.

There is never anything in 'c:/windows/system32/DirectX' and dxdiag won't run.

Company of Heroes complains that DirectX is not installed altogether, even if CrossOver reports that DX9 or DX Modern is installed. Probably related.

James.

Have you patched last crusade to the most recent version?

Alex

What's "last crusade"? You mean 'Dark Crusade'?

I do not want to mess around with patches to the game. Other games are also not working properly if at all.

I'm pretty sure it's DirectX.

It's your videocard/drivers -- it's also why you are finding directx isn't
working. It will also be why some apps do not run correctly or have graphics
problems. I'm not sure where the intel video driver is these days (in linux)
but last time I checked it didn't have anywhere what was needed to do any
intensive graphics (missing opengl stuff, other things..) ; YMMV. The Windows
drivers for the intel chipset are a little better, but those 2 have been in bed
together for years, and it doesn't seem like intel are particularly interested
in any linux video driver supports.

Yeah sorry i meant dark crusade, i just found the DOW series run better when patched especially as their latest patches remove the requirements for nocd. But Don is probably right about your intel card being the problem.

Alex

There seems to be a marginal improvement to the appearance of Dark Crusade in CX 11.

More of the textures seem to be rendering correctly. However, there are still a significant number of textures that look to be in the wrong colour mode and/or resolution/interlacing. Some of the bad textures can sometimes be vaguely recognised. I haven't noticed any textures that have transparency render correctly.

Furthermore, I have not noticed any bad textures on native Linux games and 3D applications.

All of the computers I own or have recommended have Intel graphics due to their opensource driver and better support for new Linux and X11 features. I'll continue to recommend Intel, unless the nouveau driver is up-to-scratch. Actually, I'm completely out-of-date on this. These days which manufacturer has the best opensource driver? Has nouveau overtaken Intel's driver yet? If I were to get a computer with Nvidia, does CodeWeavers even support nouveau anyway?

Anyhow, I will not use proprietary drivers. CrossOver and (reluctantly) Flash (tamed with Flashblock) are the only proprietary Linux applications I have installed.

CodeWeavers: Please fix these graphics bugs. If the bugs really are in the drivers, then really consider offering a graphics driver support product. I'd happily pay for you to go and get your hands dirty and actually improve the open source drivers rather than complain about them or blame them.
