Not accepting registration serial number

Having already checked-out the demo versions of a couple of these titles,
and finding they run quite good under COG, I bought the 'Last Resort' episode
online a couple of days ago. While it installs fine etc etc, and starts up,
it then requires you enter your serial number related to your purchase...but
I am having no luck at all with this part.

I have emailed the folks at telltale games asking for help/some clue as to
what is going on -- I'll post here if I get anywhere with this, but at the
moment this registration process looks like a bit of a show-stopper for the
avid crossover-games user....more later (hopefully)..

The other Telltale games I've tried (I own Sam and Max Seasons 1 and 2) both needed me to install IE in their bottle before the registration would work. Have you tried that?

Indeed I have, however the error persists (I was hoping installing IE6 was
the solution, but apparently with the wallace&gromit games things have
changed). Thanks for the heads-up tho' (;

Edit: Actually...just for the record...without IE6 installed it does try
but then the error is generated -- with IE6 installed it just sits there
and does nothing (process is running in my tasklist, it just never seems
to make it to screen). I also tried this with crossover pro and with IE7 in
the installation bottle, but again it never seems to make it to screen.

EDIT

this seems related to a need for d3d9_27.dll and mfc42.dll

Google-Fu says http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=119817&postcount=3

Looks pretty convoluted and nasty.

Good luck!

<edit> I'm told that Wine 1.0.1 installs and activates painlessly - that might be worth a try first! </edit>

Thanks for the pointer Carl -- I'll see if I can meld that into a crossover situation.

Btw...luck doesn't enter into it. ;D

EDIT=

The words 'convoluted' and 'nasty' probably don't say it.... <grin> ....

The poster of the link you referenced, was doing stuff with wine-1.1.17 and
like some of us know, wine being now at 1.1.28 means YMMV ....here, the process
described seems sound, but in the end has 'numerous problems' due to the wine
maturation cycle being what it is. On the positive side however, it was an
instructive and useful and a good reason to consume 4 cups of coffee...

Stable wine (1.0.1) does not 'activate painlessly'...the installation is
painless (in all cases tried including current CO/COG and 8.0b1), but getting
the activation business done was somewhere between what the above URL specifies
and a few more tricks I learnt along the way -- after getting the activation to
work, then the game itself wouldn't run ; a bit more debugging, moving dll's
about and mangling things with winecfg did... eventually... lead me to get the
title running, and it runs quite well.....another 4 cups of coffee gone....

Of course, now I'll be up all night...but I've a better grip on the parlay here
with this (these..) titles. From the looks of it, I'll need submit a support
ticket on this one so that our imperial ninja masters can feast on the challenge,
because right now the =demos= of these titles work, but the full version serial
registration process currently thwarts COG and leads to 'disappointing' results.

Obviously, I'll post to the individual titles' pages (I plan on buying all stand
alone episodes, being the longtime Aardman fan I am), as solutions become more
apparent....my personal note is that I am 'fairly confident' these games will
work with COG just fine once all the wrinkles are ironed out...

Good work, Sir! With any luck by the time I come to buy these ones (which I almost certainly will) the process will be a bit easier.

Let's hope so...this SecuROM stuff (I think that's what they're
using here...still no reply from telltales btw) or whatever is
invasive and it's good to see it's finally working of sorts in
wine...considering how many titles are 'out there' of this kind.
I have submitted a ticket on it and including it in my testing,
but as everyone is busy getting COG 8.0 out the door, it may well
be sometime after that before anyone can take a serious look at it.

If worst comes to worst, at least we can fallback on wine stable...
