Getting Closer!

Configuration: CrossOver Linux Pro v9.0 on Gentoo (WinXP bottle w/ .NET 3.0 and IE7).

Everything goes fine until the "Destination Folder" option. At this point, clicking next does nothing. Really quite baffling, but here is some info from the degug log:

Ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,

Just for reference...;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/CXOffice_Gentoo

You problem though...looks like your distro's ldap libs are out of step
with the crossover build..;

bash-3.2$ ldd ~/cxoffice/lib/wine/wldap32.dll.so
          linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xffffe000)
          libldap_r.so.2 => not found
          liblber.so.2 => not found
          .....
          ...

What version of libldap does your gentoo have installed?

Cheers!

Greetings, thanks for helping out.

It is a 64-bit installation. Could that be throwing off the CrossOver binaries?

Thanks!
Randy

Nahh, you seem to have the 32bit libs okay...I've seen something
similar to this with libopenssl...ie; the linker is honoring the
namespace, but the actual *.dll.so lib was hardcoded to a specific
lib version...umm....I'm at a disadvantage here - I don't use
crossover with ldap functionality, so I doubt I ever see that dll.so
load here...

One thing I can think of...have a look at /usr/include/ldap_features.h
and up neat the top you'll see the version defines;

/* OpenLDAP API version macros */
#define LDAP_VENDOR_VERSION 20412
#define LDAP_VENDOR_VERSION_MAJOR 2
#define LDAP_VENDOR_VERSION_MINOR 4
#define LDAP_VENDOR_VERSION_PATCH 12

...does /usr/lib32/libldap_r.so.2 exist on your system? If not, try;

ln -s  /usr/lib32/libldap_r-2.4.so.2 /usr/lib32/libldap_r.so.2 && ldconfig

Let me know what you discover ;)

Cheers!

Okay, I decided to give it a try using CentOS 5.4 (x64) just for kicks.

Same initial problems, but those were resolved by the following (not so in Gentoo):

ln -s /usr/lib/libldap_r.so /usr/lib/libldap_r.so.2

ln -s /usr/lib/liblber.so /usr/lib/liblber.so.2

ldconfig

After that, installation seems to go well, until it detects the the .NET v3 installed does not have SP1. So I tried to install that manually into the same bottle, and it crashes. The log is quite sparse... so I'm going to try a few more things this weekend and report back.

Thanks!
Randy

Ouch....that .NET 3.0 SP1 is going to bite you...it's one of the things
still being worked on I believe (.NET servicepack functionality/support)..

Cheers!

The .NET 3.0 SP1 error thrown is mentioned here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100

However, I have yet to find a way to fix it (the recommendations do not work). Does anyone at CodeWeavers have something to suggest here?

Thanks!
Randy

Hi,

As I see you're an advocate, have a read of this thread (3rd posting from Aric);

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/advocate_center/forum/?t=1;msg=76180

I have tickets open on .NET stuff because more and more games titles are
requiring .NET supports (and service packs), but this is all off into the
future right now...

Cheers!

Looks like we're on hold until SP1 can work. Or one of us finds a trick!

I will hold my breath. Everything works eventually 😊

Thanks for following the thread and helping out!

Randy

9.1 Beta3 - Ubuntu 10.04 x86_x64 - XP bottle + IE7 + .NET 3.0

Installer works now (did not work for me in previous versions), client starts, but after entering login info, it stalls at "connecting" and eventually times out.

Edit: It seems to die where I would normally get the invalid SSL cert warning. Because my ESXi server has a self-signed cert, I get this warning in windows, and choose ignore.

Using wireshark, I can see that a handshake is taking place, but no data is exchanged. My guess is that the application may do the handshake with an external library, and that is where the problem lies. If anyone has a guess as to how one might authorize the cert there, I could try that so that the client does not have that to block it.

The VMWare Infrastructure Client and vShpere Client uses a different "SSL" connection factory (API) than the default that is implemented in Wine, hence it won't work until Wine implements that socket factory... which I'm waiting for 😊 but it seems it does not not have any priority even though it will get a lot of people off M$ and actually be able to manage ESX farms without a M$ license (which should not be needed for a non M$ product in the first place, but that is another discussion...)

Tested on 10.0.0 (Linux). Installs flawlessly, but is not able to connect to the ESXi server.

Looks like the SSL module's still not ready.

Ah well. Stuck having to run a Windows Virtual Machine to get to the Virtual Machines.

Same for me. installed fine. Mac OS X 10.6 Crossover 10.0 for Mac.
Stuck trying to connect. I assume it has something to do with .NET 3.5 not being installed.

I unsuccessfully tried tunneling SSL through hTTP and connecting over 80. I was able to get connect to the server and I was told that the password and traffic would be unencrypted but a connection could not be made without making a change to the ESXi server configs which I don't want to do.

Tried this again with the new VSphere 5.0 client.

Again installs fine, but doesn't connect because of the SSL dependencies.

Same here.
