Has anyone gotten this to work?

Trying to install the latest vSphere VMWare Client 6.0 and it did not work..
Tried it twice. It installs what appears to be an XP "bottle" with .net 3.5 SP1and windows explorer 7.

Then, when it actually installs the VMWare software, it complains that it may not work properly on an XP system. "See VMWare Knowledge Base article 2049143"

I think it dies when it tries to install an hcmon driver. A popup windows comes up titled "VMInstallHcmon" with the text
"Failed to install the hcmon driver." and then it dies.

"Installation completed
The wizard was interrupted before VMWare Sphere Client 6.0 could be completely installed.
Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again
Click Finish to exit the wizard."

I now have two VMware "Bottles" with an Internet Explorer icon and a Run Command icon. No vSphere client. :(

For me, I also got that warning on a Windows 7 bottle. But I just waited for about 5 seconds after that message appeared, and the app seems to automatically open by itself. Did you use the "vSphere" template when asked to select an application from list?

You can make this work by doing the following:

  1. Create a bottle by installing VMware vSphere Client 5.5. I could not find a better way to get all of the components installed needed by the installer.
  2. Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\VMware".
  3. Rename "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\hcmon.sys".
  4. Install software in the bottle and choose the 6.0 installer as an unknown application.

You may get a message on occasion about "services.exe" crashing, but it doesn't seem to affect the use of the client. I've not found a resolution to this yet.
