.NET Framework 1.1

The .NET Framework installation completes with version 4.2.0, and with most of the nightly builds, but with two errors, both seemingly pertaining to regsvcs.exe. Even with those errors, the installation completes. I tried a 'Hello World' app, and it didn't run, so I assume those errors, while not fatal during the installation, prevent any .NET apps from running. We need more people to get involved in those. I know there are other VS.NET advocates, please keep helping. We are getting closer with every nightly build!!

Can you tell us the steps for getting .net Framework installed (even partially)? I have been trying to do it for another app that relies on it from the .exe, but can't get anywhere ☹️

I use the Win98 bottle, first install DCOM, then IE6. Then I install the dotnetfx.exe file as an unsupported app in my win98 bottle. NOTE: I get a "likely to produce errors" warning before I start installing, but I ignore it and move on. The install finishes for me, but no .NET apps I've tried work at all (I've written a couple, a console app and a Windows Forms app to test, to no avail). They just don't seem to do anything, my only though is cxoffice is trying to run the .net app instead of invoking the .NET Framework. not sure, I'll keep trying . . .

P.S. - I install the .NET Framework by itself, and not as part of any other installation. You can download the .NET Framework redistributable, the file is called dotnetfx.exe.

Tried that.. always get stuck near the end of the install and then the installer does an auto cleanup (where it uninstalls everything it installed!)

Have tried dotnet 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 with Win2000 and Win98 with not luck ☹️

Which version did you use?

I used the .NET Framework 1.1. What version of cxoffice are you trying it with? I've been trying it with the nightly builds, starting with somewhere around the middle of next week. Here are some of my detailed steps:

I installed (for example) nightly build 050811 as a normal user (not as root), then I install DCOM using the win98 bottle. Then I install IE6. Then I install the .NET Framework (all also as a normal user, never as root), all under the win98 bottle. I've ignored all warnings (such as installing IE6 in a new "unsupported" bottle). The installation goes all the way through to the end, and even says 'The installation completed successfully'. Keep trying! Keep posting on here, I'll do what I can to help you. BTW, what linux dist are you running?

Thanks for your help. With a clean install of the latest nightly I finally got it to install, with only a few errors from external programs the installed tried to call.

However, that was under Win98, and my app will only run under Win2k or XP, so I guess this won't get me much further ☹️

Under Win2k the installed exits as soon as it starts!

I am using FedoraCore 3 on i686 (Pentium 4, 1.8 Ghz) with 512 Mb Ram.

I'm having the same problem with the win2000 bottle. I can get the .NET Framework to install in the win98 bottle, but it throws CLR runtime errors - I googled this error and found that others having the same issue were running the .NET Framework in Windows 98 compatibility mode, so it doesn't appear that a win98 bottle will work. I can't get IE6 or Windows Installer 2.0 to install cleanly in the win2000 bottle, and therefore cannot get the .NET Framework to install cleanly either (or even start like you mentioned). I was able to compile a simple app using the command-line C# compiler, in the win98 bottle though, so I know we are so close!! So close . . . .
