DVD Version does not work

Hi,
I tried installing UFO Afterlight. Installs okay but when I try to run it this error message pops up " No disc inserted.
Please insert the original "UFO Afterlight" CD/DVD.
Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=nodisc for further, more detailed information."

I try to "Retry" but nothing happens. The message pops up again. Any one can help?

Hi,

What you are fighting, is disc based DRM, which will not work on OSX (due to
the design of the OSX scsi driver), and probably doesn't work on linux either (due
to lack of support for the particular DRM used)... see;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/cxgamesdrm

If you live in a locale/jurisdiction that legally allows the circumvention of such
DRM mechanisms under the auspices of 'fair usage', you might be able to get the game
running via that route, however, as the Codeweavers website is based in the US of A,
we cannot discuss DRM circuvention within these forums. That said...

...looking over at the WineHQ AppDB entry for this title, it seems there is a patch
available that removes the DRM from the CD version of the game ; I am unsure if that
works for the DVD release...see;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7673

Further note, that some patches like this do not remove all of the DRM mechanism involved,
and even with the patch the title may not work on OSX but will work on linux ; again, this
is due to the design of the OSX scsi driver. The only way to find out, is to try the patch(es)
mentioned on the WineHQ page...

..as a rule of thumb, people using Mac OSX and Crossover/Wine should avoid disc based
releases if at all possible, unless you are 100% certain there is no disc based DRM involved.
Note this title is available as a digital download from a number of vendors, and as such
are not subject to the issues presented by disc based DRM.

Cheers!
