Won't install in CX Games 9.0.0, due to .NET Framework 2.0

Why is this rated as Silver? It depends on .NET Framework 2.0 (which is bronze) and 3.0 (also bronze) - http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=1578 and http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=3356 respectively.

I used http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6077;forum=1;msg=80763 as a guide, and first tried to install .NET Framework 3.0 into an existing XP bottle (but new since CXG 9.0 beta 4, and the only thing installed in this is the new Steam Client).

Installing .NET 3.0 first causes .NET Framework 2.0 to be installed (Windows doesn't do this - why is CXG forcing this install when trying to install .NET 3.0?) Result is that the .NET Framework 2.0 installer launches but hangs about 10% through, for 10 hours plus, with Cancel button disabled.

I had to do an uninstall of the partial installation of .NET 2.0 (two installed entries apparently), but that also hangs. Can anyone recommend a good free Windows uninstaller (such as Revo Uninstaller free edition) that works under WINE?

I have separately tried installing just Windows Media Player 10 and NVidia PhysX (via the C4P file posted here), but that doesn't work either - Steam now says there's not enough disk space to install Trine, despite their being 80GB free on the directory containing ~/.cxgames and the bottle.

In fact Steam isn't working at all now, perhaps due to a recent couple of updates - it was working fine using the new Steam Client with HL2 (main, Ep1, Ep2), Portal, etc, but now nothing works...

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 32-bit with NVidia GTX260.

Hope someone has some good ideas here - I'm now using a real XP multiboot for Trine.

.Net 3.0 always depends on .Net 2.0 however on windows it installs is more quietly.

Are you installing .Net 3.0 via CrossOver's Application profile in Runtime Components? There are a few tricks CrossOver needs to know to install .Net properly. Try that first.

If you are installing with CrossOver's profile and it is still failing please open a support ticket.

I have to second Aric in that .Net 3.0 under Windows is also completely dependent on .Net 2.0. Check your "add/remove programs".

You're right about the bad installer, though. .Net 2.0 does not always install properly from the .Net 3.0 installer. I remember now that in one case I had to install .Net 2.0 by itself first, then install .Net 3.0.

Aric, I'll try to replicate this error so I can submit a support ticket. As it is, this happened several days ago and my memory is not very clear on the details. Maybe 2.0 fails from 3.0 after Steam has been installed? Maybe there's a weird dependency with MSXML? I'll try it out.
