Important Instructions on Installing Train Simulator 2015

These are important instructions on how to successfully run Train Simulator 2015 in CrossOver.

People that used the CrossTie, skip to Step 3.

  1. These components need to be downloaded and installed in order to utilize all the functions in the game (this should be done before the game is downloaded): Steam, .NET Framework 4, Internet Explorer 8, and DirectX 9 (I installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable and NVIDIA PhysX as well because they were needed in the past.).

  2. You can then download the game through Steam (this will take a while).

  3. Once it is downloaded, quit Steam. DO NOT run the game yet.

  4. This is where it gets complicated. Go to your Train Simulator 2015 files at this directory: drive_c\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Railworks, which can be found by clicking, in the menu bar, Configure -> Manage Bottles -> Railworks 6-Train Simulator 2015 (the bottle) -> Bottle -> Open C: Drive) and change the name on the file "installscript.vdf" to "old_installscript.vdf". This prevents the game from reinstalling the components you installed manually.

  5. Once you have changed the file, you need to run Steam separately from how CrossOver does it. In the menu bar, go to Programs -> Run Command..., select "Railworks 6-Train Simulator 2015" as your running bottle (or whatever you named the bottle the game is installed into), then click "Browse..." and find the Steam executable at this directory: drive_c\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe. Click "Open." Expand the "Debug Options," tick "Create log file," and in the "Other:" input box, type "warn+heap" without quotes. Click "Run." (If it asks you where to save the log file, just save it to where it defaults.)

  6. Then, Steam should open and you can play Train Simulator 2015! (It takes a while for the game to open the first time, but it will; just be patient.)

Cheers,

Nope,

This just didn't work for me. Followed exactly what you suggested, even tried the CrossOver for the Train Simulator 2015 and tried without. Couldn't get it to work.

I keep getting a black screen which will eventually turn white with a error code in a box which pops up. Can't see the box though.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Chris

Are you still running this successfully?

Thanks
Chris

Just installed it all through steam but get the black load screen then crashes, can you make this fix in a video instead. The instructions seem a bit too complicated to follow etc ??

I installed it through steam and the first time it worked but the graphics were ridiculously sluggish but the second time i got the black screen loading the mission.

I am running it on a 27inch iMac with a partition running Windows 8.1 done through bootcamp

I have Windows 7 Professional partitioned on my 2009 MacBook Pro's SSD and Train Simulator 2015 runs at about 20 FPS on the lowest graphical settings. Do you have TSX toggled off? How much RAM do you have installed? What year is your iMac? (a model number would suffice as well)

Chris,

I have yet to test it since CrossOver 14 beta. It was working then, I can only assume that it should work now. I will do a clean install and get back to you.

Matthew,

I will definitely post pictures within the instructions, if not embed a video if it lends itself to that. Have you tried using the CrossTie?

3.2GHz Processor
1 TB Storage
3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB (two 4GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M with 1GB video memory

That is my Machine, its 2014

EDIT: Its actually 3.4 ghz and 2gb graphics

I dont think windows is picking it up

It's possible that you do not have enough RAM to play the game. Since the operating system needs some RAM (I've found that Mac OS X often needs about 2Gb, not counting miscellaneous processes, where Windows is about the same; the game itself needs a minimum of 2Gb, but I found it uses closer to 4), it's possible that all of it is used up and your CPU has to page back to your hard disk to keep up, making the game sluggish.

Being that you have Windows on a Bootcamp partition, it should work just as well as on native Windows, as all Bootcamp is is a thin hypervisor with the drivers needed to make your Mac hardware play nice with Windows.

Unless you have a lot of startup items or your software is out of date, I have no further suggestions at this time.

I hope this helped a little.

Cheers, It turned outt hat the Graphics card had not installed, it said it was installing when i installed the bootcamp windows update it said it had but i had to get the graphics card driver and put it in mysself. its running perfect now on maximum graphics detail!

Cheers

That's great to hear! Glad it worked out.

I couldn't get this to work in CrossOver 13 (steam doesn't seem to work well), so i'm trying Crossover 14 and with these instructions I can get to work.

It does only work with the debug settings active which means I need to enter run command each time I want to play. (save as launcher doesn't create a working shortcut)

Is there any way to create an app shortcut with the debug settings automatically set?
