Final file move to complete installation

DO NOT run the game yet.

After you've had Steam complete the download of the game go into your Train Simulator 2013 directory (drive_c\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks, which can be found by clicking, in the menu bar, Configure -> Manage Bottles -> Steam (bottle) -> Advanced -> Open C: Drive in Finder) and change the file "installscript.vdf" to "old_installscript.vdf".

If you have graphical glitches switch the in-game graphics to Windowed mode.

This information is already in my post, but thank you for reinforcing it! I'm glad you got it to work. It seems that Steam has updated the game recently, so if you have already installed the game, you may have to change the file back because some updates revert the file to its original name. And one more thing, if you put your Anti-Aliasing settings to "FXAA + 2x2 SSAA," the map won't work, it'll just be a pixelated version of whatever windows you have open. I just use "FXAA" and it works just fine.

It wont work for me, iv changed the file but when i launch it, a get a program error, it says there is a deficiency in wine
anyone got any ideas what the problem is?
Thanks

Are you absolutely sure that you changed the correct file? Did all of the dependencies install correctly?

Also, I will need to know what version of CrossOver you are running and what operating system you are running it on.

well when u say change the file i assume you mean rename it? im only running the trial version of crossover but it should be the lastest as i downloaded it only the other and im running mac osx mountain lion 10.8.2, im pretty sure they all installed, i didnt get any error messages

thanks for the reply!

You are very welcome.

You are correct in your assumptions. The game is fully functional, if you install it correctly, with the current version of CrossOver. The file name literally needs to be changed to "old_installscript.vdf" before you press "Play" on the game for the first time. I would suggest completely reinstalling the game into a new bottle.

If none of this helped, please post your step-by-step installation information (how your installation went).

Note: To find what version of CrossOver you are running, simply go to CrossOver in the Menu Bar and click "About CrossOver". It will tell you what version you are running. Also, ignore the numbers after "Version 12.1.1"; that is advanced information on the build and is usually not pertinent.

[i]I have successfully tested this CrossTie in CrossOver v12.1.1 and it works as it should.

I downlaoded the corsstie and clicked intasll, all the packeges installed, but falsh 11.3 says there is an error beacsue its not the lastest version, but flash 11.5 intalled fine erlier on. I download the game in steam, cahnged the file ran and same problem. I tried again with the other crosstie (railworks 4: train simulator 2013) no flash errors this time but still the same problem when i launch

If i can get this foxed would be great, running on a trail version of parallels at the moment which runs out soon

Thanks

Flash Player 11.3 is not needed. If the CrossTie tries to install it, don't. Flash Player 11.5 does work like it should. I made the Railworks 4: Train Simulator 2013 CrossTie, so I don't know why you're having an issue with it. I also have a series of questions for you:

  1. Is the game installed into a completely new, fresh bottle?
  2. Is the bottle's operating system set to "Windows XP"?
  3. After the game finished downloading, did you completely exit out of Steam and then change the file?
  4. What is the exact wording of the error?
  5. Do you actually own the game on Steam?
  6. This is a telltale sign: Did Steam try to download any dependencies after you pressed "Play" on TS2013?

If the issue persists, redo the installation and instead of changing the file name, delete the file altogether. This will produce the same effect as changing the file name would.

yup fresh bottle, windows xp, exited steam, i own the game, no it dosent try to install anything
here a link to a screen shot of the error after reinstalling the game and deleting the file this time like you said, but it is exactly the same error i got when i changed the file.

This might sound really stupid, but could it be i have a retina macbook and there is a problem with the graphics?

I'm stumped... I haven't the slightest idea why it still won't work if you've done everything that I said to do in my forum post. I will try to get Andrew Balfour, a staff member and support ninja, to help you with this issue. He probably knows a great deal more about this application than I do. However, there are just a few more things to try before that:

  1. Try verifying the game cache. Do this several times so as to be sure that it got all of the files (you will need to delete the "installscript.vdf" again; Steam will have put it back in that process).
  2. Deactivate all in-game content, like chatting and in-game notifications.
  3. When the CrossTie tries to install Adobe Flash Player, don't let it. It is only required to display the adds while loading the scenarios and may break it in special cases (this is a new piece of information I was not aware of before).

I don't believe that the retina display will have any effect on running the game (the game is actually built for PCs with much higher technical specifications than even our MacBook Pros).

Also, you do not have to use the Grab application to take screenshots. Simply hold Cmd+LShft+3 to take a screenshot of the entire screen and Cmd+LShft+4 to select a specific area for the screenshot. The resulting image will be saved to your desktop.

If those three suggestions do not help, let me know and I will try to get Andrew to help you.

Cheers

tried all that and still no luck,
i dont know why i didnt try this before but it works fine and my now ancient iMac but is very slow and sluggish, but is really confusing me why it wont work on my macbook

thanks for all you help

It is quite weird that it will run on your ancient iMac, but it won't work on your new MacBook...

You are very welcome. I am always glad to help people get their games up and running, because, frankly, I would want help with the games I love (that is my primary motivation for being an advocate).

I'm glad you at least got it to work somewhere!

Cheers

There is one thing that I totally forgot about that is the most basic thing you can do. Manually install all of the components (DO NOT use the CrossTie). This should bypass all of the issues you have with installing anything.
