Particle effects in-game messed up

Hey guys,

I'm running Torchlight just fine on a vanilla bottle of Steam.
There's only one problem I'm having, unfortunately it is fairly annoying, and is impeding my playing of the game right now.

Even when I run Torchlight in SAFEMODE=1, I get the following effects around almost any fire light source:

Is anyone else getting the same problem?
I've tried playing with a number of settings in the settings.txt file to no avail. It seems like the particle system is going haywire when it's run through crossover, and I can't fathom why.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Windburn, good afternoon =]

What video card are you using? Are you using the latest drivers?
I would suggest thats up to your videocard but can be anything else.

Hi Romulo, thanks for the quick response!

I'm using a 9600M GT 512mb, and have one of the new unibody Macbook Pros.
I've checked the apple software update, and believe I have the latest drivers (there's nothing else to download).

It's strange, because no one else has reported having the same problems that I can tell.

Did you guys get it to run full screen or a larger windowed than the default? I tried running the game in Safe Mode (SAFEMODE=1 in console) and changed a couple of the settings in the settings.txt file. Only had a chance to play the game for a few minutes but so far, it runs smoothly.

Nope. For some reason as soon as you try to change the resolution settings in game, or try to make the game fullscreen (in settings.txt or otherwise), it'll crash with an error. Do your fire effects appear as normal?

I tried run in fullscreen but got some crashes, then later i had the chance to have it working without using a window manager, but i havent try again (i just played for a few mins). Im using the gt9600 too but on linux, will try later on my mac windburn ;)

I'm getting the same fire issue with Crossover Linux Games 8.0.0. To clarify the issue, all fire effects on the screen are WAY too large about 75% of the time. They get in the way of gameplay because they make it hard to see anything that ends up behind these "super" flames. The above pic is showing the torches in the early mine levels, which should be much smaller. Another place to see this effect is the central torch pillar in the tow at the beginning of the game.

I'm using an HP laptop with an nVidia Go 6150. Admittedly no a powerful graphics card, but since this game is designed to play on netbooks it should run fine. The game does play fine, just the fire effect gets in the way. This has also been reported on the Runic Games forum. It's unclear at this point if the problem is in the game or in Crossover, but it seems to be effecting both Crossover Mac and Linux, Futher notes: I'm using it through Steam.

Fullscreen works now with the latest .12 patch. (Steam version) My resolution won't go beyond 1024 x 768 though in fullscreen. And the fire issue is the same. I haven't tried doing the winetricks script to install some dlls, so that's up next.
