Stand alone version doesn't work in CrossOver

The demo version available directly from Runic does not work: http://www.torchlight2game.com/. Install proceeds fine, but a black square covers the launcher screen and running the main executable for the game directly has no effect. Wine forums discuss the same problem: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=26690
