Installs and loads

For those in the Torchlight 2 beta, I wanted to let everyone know of the brief testing I have done so far:

Crossover 11.0.3
OS X 10.7.4
MBA 1.86 C2D 2GB RAM

Installing went fine. While downloading the game, I did have a few error messages but once the game was fully installed, it did load up. I have yet to try and actually play the game (at work) but I have read reports on the Runic Forums that folks have gotten the game to run very well within Wine.

I have yet to get a beta key (no luck so far). Please let us know how it runs.

Played for about 5-10 minutes and so far, it runs great. I did turn down the settings a bit due to the low specs (medium/low and no shadows) of the machine but it does run smooth. Will do more testing this evening.

The installer finished alright. Then there was the pre-game launcher. It works OK, except it has 2 windows: a real one and a black one on top of it. On Ubuntu, it was possible to move the black one off with alt+left hold. Sometimes it would syncronize itself back on top of the real one, but that was not frequent enough to be an issue.

Pause/resume functions of the pre-game launcher worked. Minimizing it however made it minimize forever and it was not coming back...

Pasting the beta key for the pre-launcher activation did not work either via ctrl+v or right-click-paste.

No luck in running it for me. Using CX 11.0.3 without any patches to the bottle, the game shows the loading screen and then goes black, with a new cursor, and music playing. Can't see anything.

It also kills the window decocator, but that can be re-obtained with alt+f2, unity --replace.

I ran it in Wine 1.5.4, and it ran on maximum graphical settings (GTX 560 video card) without any issues.

Pasting in the beta key did not work for me either - had to manually type the code in. Also saw the second black box when installing a few times. Planning on testing the game more this evening.

Played last night for a few hours. The game really runs great. The only issues with the game are loading it (might have the 2nd black box at startup which requires a Crossover restart) and closing the program (Crossover brings up a screen saying the program is still running and wants to terminate it). All of these issues are easily tolerable.

I've worked out the problem thanks to Jack Phinney and your screenshots: I was running the game full-screen, but it was not detecting my 1900x1080 resolution properly and was defaulting 800x600. On 800x600, it crashes. I made a virtual desktop of 1024x768 and it works fine then.

Could you confirm on your mac whenever 800x600 works?

I should note that the black box covering the launcher also does not appear in a virtual desktop mode.

How do you do that? I get to the launch window but when I click on anything it turns black.
thanks in advance.

People that need better performance should turn off shadows. This also fixes some funky lighting effects.

LE:

Just finished a full playthrough with the outlander and did not encounter any issues. Gameplay is solid.

It doesn't actually turn black - a black window comes on top of it. If you're on a Linux, you can move it off with alt+left hold. On Mac, I'm not sure how to move it off.

Once you move it off, you'll see that the launcher is still there underneath it.
