I have been playing Legend version 1.0 (the updaters say the game isn't installed). This is on Crossover Games 7.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.7 - the game has run great full screen at native resolution with reflections turned off (to avoid the graphical glitch). Unfortunately having completed the first several levels I can't start the Japan levels. The game loading bar finishes and I get the "checkpoint" sound on a full black screen then the game crashes to the desktop.

Looking at the console I see:

I tried re-installing in a new bottle and replaying from a prior save but still get exactly the same.

It looks like the game is writing through a NULL pointer -- accessing memory space it's not allowed to access. This might be due to several things. One is running out of memory. You should try lowering the in-game graphics settings to see if that helps.

Another possible reason is if CrossOver/Wine has an incomplete implementation of some part of Windows which those levels require. You can try collecting a debug log and scanning for missing DLLs or the like. This page shows a screenshot of how to collect the log, but, since this is an unsupported game, you shouldn't submit it as part of a support ticket.

Unfortunately, there are many other possible causes of this problem, so eliminating the above two may just leave you stuck. Sorry. 😥

Thanks for the response. It is a shame I can't get the 1.2 Patch to install under Crossover as that version has a Platinum rating at WineHQ. I tried the game again in Crossover Games 7.2.2 and got the same crash. I don't think I can change anything much with the graphics as there is a note on the WineHQ page that you have to run it a full screen. I have run the report but it is I imagine too much to post here what clues should I be looking for in it?

I just upgraded to Crossover games 8 on Snow Leopard and to my surprise I could resume the game and play the next level!

I guess it must just have been a bug in 7.2.x

After starting playing this on 7.2 on Leopard. I finished the game today in Crossover games 8 on Mac OS X 10.6.1.

The only issue I encountered was that sometimes when launching the game Lara would just start running round in circles. I'm not sure what was causing this but quitting and relaunching (sometimes more than once) would always fix it. Performance and stability of the game (version 1.0) was excellent at my native 1680x1050. It was fantastic to be able to play a great title that never got a Mac port.

I just installed 8.1 and there must be a regression as I tested Tomb Raider Legend and found that the game loaded but the screen would remain completely black at the main menu - I could hear the music and start a new game by pressing enter. This game me the cinematic but it was a mess - just grey and black. When this finished the whole display in game was greys and blues.

It looks like this regression might be relevant: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20269 is the bug, from the game's entry at http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=5215 - the bug reporter has bisected WINE to isolate the specific patch that caused the problem.

The game now works great in Crossover games 9.1 (this has been a great release for so many titles) and with the new installer process I was also successfully able to apply the 1.2 patch :)

The only points that would stop it being platinum rated for me is that FSAA and next generation content are greyed out in both the application and the setup program. I'm running at 1680 x 1050 full screen using an ATI Radeon 4870 - I can't see an ini or config file to try and force these on to see if they work.
