The GOG version installs correctly and runs okay with linux/crossover
games, installed into it's own bottle using the winXP profile.
Edit: The GOG version will be no longer available after 29/08/09.
It may or may not return to the GOG.com site at some future time.
The GOG version is ~5.2gb of downloadable install files ;
setup_toca_3-1.bin
setup_toca_3-2.bin
setup_toca_3-3.bin
setup_toca_3.exe
After downloading these files, make sure they are all in the
same directory, and point the cxinstallwizard to the above .exe
file (setup_toca_3.exe) -- installation should complete cleanly.
Note: you will need ~7.5gb of free drive space for this install.
My ranking of 'Silver' is not truly indicative of how well this
game runs -- it is possibly worth a Gold medal. It is more a case
of me having to do more testing - it's a big game.
I run in windowed mode (to avoid smashing my twinview setup), but
I note the ingame video otions had detected my native desktop of
1680x1050, and so fullscreen is likely to run ok too. When in
windowed mode, changing the in game graphics resolution options,
changes the size of the window.
I tend to always (if the game allows it) use driving games like
this, from the perspective of sitting in the driver's seat looking
out the windscreen - TOCA 3 was doing this well. However, if you
use that '3rd person' perspective of being outside/above the car
to drive it ('over the shoulder'), some serious graphics glitches
were evident ... shadows mucked-up, slices of the surrounding
scenery turning to blackness...hard to deal with in the gameplay
itself. Joystick/controller functions in linux working fine too.
Online (network) game play is working as well.
Other than the graphical glitches I mention (only in out-of-car mode),
it was doing everything properly (as far as I've tested) -- I'll keep
testing ; it'll get a higher medal I think, once I've given it a more
thorough workout.
