How to get TntMPD working with CrossOver Mac 6.0 Beta 1

Long story short...

  • Create a new "win98" bottle.
  • Make it the "default bottle".
  • Install Internet Explorer 6.0.
  • Install TntMPD 2.0 r30 (or newer).

It’s still very much “beta” (ie. not officially supported), but so far it seems to work fairly well.

Kelly--

I am using CrossOver 7.0, so I don't know EXACTLY what the difference is, but I didn't seem to need to make the bottle the "default" bottle: I just needed to install of the software in that one bottle location.

I managed to get it to run, but I haven't even tried to USE it yet. (I am actually a new staffer and am trying to get my wife's old contact data before they merge our data... she was on STINT before we were married.)

I downloaded the crossover version 7.0.2 and have been unable to get TntMPD to load up. I continue to get a message that I need jet service pack 4.8. I keep getting the message that there is not enough disk space. I know that is not true. Any advice on how to overcome?

I am having the same problem (tntmpd version 2.0 r64 and crossover version 7.0.2). Someone please help.

Unfortunately the version of TntMPD that was in the above tutorial is not available on the website to test with to see it operating with CrossOver. The versions that are available do not install into CrossOver (and do not install in the version of CrossOver listed in the tutorial).

I have spent a bit of time this afternoon attempting to replicate a successful install (I have no problem running into a brick wall during installation) and have yet to be successful.

If someone has the older version of TntMPD (2.0 r30) I would be happy test with it and see if there is anything further I can find out, but at this time this application does not work with CrossOver. And without a working version we cannot debug to find out what made it not work (basically, it is easier to fix something we broke... but if we can't get it to work with CrossOver then we do not know where to begin looking... meaning easily 100x the amount of work to get it going... and unsupported applications just don't get that kind of attention without a large outcry of users).

My apologies, I wish I had better news.

FYI: I have been to the forums at TntMPD and saw that you first asked for help there. This was after I requested the version of TntMPD that is referenced in the tutorial (http://www.tntware.com/tntmpd/forums/t/2168.aspx).

Perhaps they will be able to supply this version and we can get somewhere with this... no promises though. I will do what I can, but this doesn't always work.

Caron and all curious...

It seems the latest build to work with Crossover was 2.0.39. Something changed in 2.0.40 that broke it.

Here is a link to a downloadable file of TntMPD that I have been using only very shortly, but it DOES pull down my data:

Looking forward to seeing what can be done to get even newer versions up and running.

It seems from the TntMPD forum that they were having more and more of a difficult time tailoring TntMPD to Wine (which really they should never have had to) so at version 2.0.57 they removed the pieces that made TntMPD compatible with Wine.

The beginning issue with the newer versions is that Jet 4.0 will not install properly into CrossOver. The other prerequisites all install well with CrossOver with a bit of tweaking (move to a win98 bottle, add the requirements, move back to a winXP bottle).

Unfortunately at this time we don't plan to expand support for this and being that the application broke on the TntMPD side means that it's not something we can fix on our side. Truthfully all that you can do at this time is wait for CrossOver to become more advanced or wait for the tools that TntMPD uses to change.

I plan to peruse the beta side a bit with TntMPD and poke around but I make zero promises.

I wish it were better news, but being a small company means that we have to focus on more widely used programs and getting the functionality within them up.

My apologies.

After experiencing most of the problems others have described (insufficient disk space, JET not installing, etc.) I followed Ian's link and downloaded the 2.0.39 version. This worked like a champ. Curious thing, the support link of that version says it needs Win2000 to install, but I installed it into a Win98 bottle with no problems. It didn't use the JET40 zip file that comes with MPD, but rather it automatically downloaded a new JET40 from a Microsoft site and this one installed just fine. Call me a happy camper! I can't live without my TNT!
