Yes, there are a few cases in which the installer goes kaput. It's better to start it with the /nogui option. I'm working on a version of the crosstie that will do that a a few other things and that should be good for the GoG and Steam versions of the game

Hello Silviu,
I'm trying to install the DVD version of the game with crossover 14.0.3 The first DVD goes fine, then the installer asks for the 2DVD which reaches almost the end but fails with a strange "windows-type" error "it seems the application didn't installa succesfully". However the shortcuts get created but the game does not run at all when executed. You think running the install with /no gui option may help here? What may be the reason?
Thanks
I do not have the DVD version so I really can't say.
Could you have a look on the installer logs please? Maybe it wil give some ideas?
This is not officially supported so I cannot file a ticket.
Appreciate your help.
Yeah. I'll take a look.

Any hints what may be causing this?
That does not look like an installer log. You're trying to run the game and for some reason it fails. The log does not give any clue though.
This is what I get when starting the game. I have also seen wine report it to work only with older versions.
May it be CX 14.03 wine version is to recent? I'm gonna check with PoL with wine version reported as working. I'll get back to you after the test.
The game installed with no problems on PoL using an older version of wine.
Silviu, I have noticed the crash with crossover happens after the installer tries to install some libraries. This may be usefl to you and the crosstie file.
I cannot start the game as a window with "use the start screen to regsiter the game" appear and nothing can be done.
Any ideas?
To get rid of that window you may need to download the officially released patches for the game which fix a lot of bugs and remove the DRM. Other than that I can't really help. Steam and GOG versions installed and ran fine last time I checked. It's even less relevant now that Virtual Programming improved the performance of their wrapper and it beats CX (or wine + the CSMT patch)
Ok. Downloaded the patch and ran the game but it is so slow...may old wine version be the reason?
I finally managed to get the game to run with crossover. It has to be install in a dfferent way and it is much more faster with the crossover wine version than the PoL one.
I will soon add the decription to the tips&tricks section
Cheers.
