It works

Hello,

with crossover Linux 9.2.0 I got this game to work without problem by installing it in a windows xp bottle.
Everything seems to work fine. I have jsut played it for 5 minutes to test it, but I will test it more. Installed with all patches.

How:
create windows xp bottle
install directx modern; activex 10; microsoft net 2.0; microsoft core fonts; internet explorer 7.
afterwards: install the sims 3
after that: download the patches and install them in the xp bottle by using crossover install software.

I don't know if all these ms programs are needed, but it works now.

Hi,

Which release of this title do you refer to? DVD, Steam...other?...

Cheers!

Sorry, I'm not sure whether or not I know what you mean.

I just used the DVD to install this game, so I think it is DVD....
Actually I do not play many games, maybe that is the reason why I don't know what Steam is.

By the way, I have 2 small graphical problems:
1: the in-game mouse cursor has a visible square around it. Part of that square is white.
2: in the game, when a sim stands in front of a mirror, the mirror displays some ugly pixels. You can also see it on the screenshots that are already posted by someone else. In my case the mirror was not colored, but it wasn't completely right either.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback - yes, I was wanting to know if you had the DVD
version or not, as it's marked as not working due to disc based DRM. That
may be in error, because I see you're using linux, and some disc based DRM
systems work in linux and not in OSX, hence my query...

As for the graphical glitches, you say that you are using Crossover 9.2 ;
is that Crossover Games, or Crossover Std/Pro? If you're not using the
Games product, that may explain the mouse artifacts etc..let us know...

Cheers!

Hello,

I'm using crossover Standard, so that is maybe the reason for the (small) graphical issues.

Well, I did nothing special with the DVD, although I did not install EA download manager (as even my windows installation has issues with it) and I did something that I'm not allowed to say here. It has something to do with using (or not using) the DVD drive of my laptop.

Thanks for that - enough said =) I'd have to suspect it's the Standard
version going by what you describe - I sometimes use Standard to install
some games titles, because they (the installers) rely on some features
not in the Games version, and many times I see the same block cursor
effect. When I'm doing something like that, it's only to install, online
register and activate the game -- then I'll create a cxarchive of that
bottle in Standard, and restore the bottle into Crossover Games, and
most all of the time those artifacts disappear...

...it wouldn't cost you anything to sus that out using the same method,
just grab the demo of the Games release, install it, and then restore
the cxarchive into that version and see how it goes...if you were curious B)

Cheers!
