Has anyone tried WindowsXP mode yet by the way? I haven't really got the energy to reinstall everything under WindowsXP mode so I have not been able to... maybe the game wíll work under XP. Just wondering if it will.

I have. I get it fully installed, but when I try to play it, I get and error message along the lines of "Please insert the correct disk then close then restart the application" (i'm totally paraphrasing) I get the opening image-icon thing that says "The Sims 2" but then there is that error message... if there is a quick fix to that, then we're good to go! As far as the ejecting that fails on the other windows bottles, not a problem here. Just press the "eject" button in the installer. Takes about 30 seconds, but it works.
Does this help?
Oh, you have to make a virtual desk top in winecfg, though, and "x" out of that box that's titled "Electronic... something" that's all white, then it starts the installation like normal. I don't know what it supposed to be in that box, is there a way of finding out?
That is documented in the "Tips & Tricks" section for this app. You don't need to use the virtual desktop though.
I have successfully downloaded the sims2 using this method... but now I am trying to install it again and it's not ejecting! I realize that the problem is fixed by making different ISOs but the inconsistency bothers me.
Found the problem... I had clicked the "allow direct x apps stop the mouse from leaving their window" thing. I dont know if that was the problem, but when I unclicked it, the download was successful.
