I just got the gog.com (good old games) version of this game. It advertises as having no DRM (and it's on sale this weekend). I'd tried running the demo from steam with little success. When I get the chance I'll see how cxg runs the gog version.

I think that's because the graphical errors have nothing to do with the DRM, merely to do with some non-standard use of DirectX and/or a proprietary engine.

Or perhaps these things and something else or something else entirely.

You're probably right James. Note that if you run it by itself some graphics show upside down. I used the first tip in the tips&tricks section to fix that (the .ini file, I belive it's setting this bool_UseHardware=0) However characters are still invisible and you can only see shadows. Videos still don't play.

On the other hand the GOG version doesn't require anything to install it. It installs perfectly without any fuzz.

For me the GOG version does render videos without problems. But I get the shadowy characters though, and no subtitles, no dialog menu etc. which makes it unplayable.
I'd love so much to have it work, I never played it and heard it's really a great game. Hopefully for CXGames 9 ?

The nincompoops at Gog just were updating the website and took it down with no warning then posted the least communicative letter ever. Looks like they'll be back up by end of week.
