Running the game

I tried the demo thru the Steam engine, but the image was upside-down, lots of grafical bugs too :(

Edit: Tried my old 4cd version, its installed, all images in the installer was upside-down, I got a directx error at the end and I find no files in the bottle.

To bad this Great game dont work.

I've just tried it with Crossover Games 7.1.1 (mac) and it still doesn't work (Steam Version). With the default options it brings the whole computer to a grinding halt (can't even force quit), by turning off hardware acceleration with the (game) ini options:

[DirectX]
int_BitDepth=16
bool_ShadowsOn=0
bool_StartFullscreen=0
bool_IsDoubleBuffer=0
bool_UseHardware=0

The game starts but gives an error and doesn't draw properly either giving blank areas or just drawing randomly in the top part of the screen. Trying to quit the game gives X window messages with nothing in them.

Error message:
c:\TLJ\source\game\DX_Module\primarysurface.cpp 558
Check failed:Rectangle provided was invalid

Edit: This is on a Macbook pro running 10.4.11

If the computer is really totally locked up, then I suspect it's a problem in Mac OS X or its video drivers. No user-level program like CrossOver, no matter what it might do, should ever be able to totally lock up the system.

That said, it's possible that Force Quit is kinda working. When there's a full-screen program, the Force Quit dialog can sometimes be behind the program. Blindly hitting return may allow it to take effect.

From the settings you list, it appears the game is trying to use 16-bit graphics. It may be necessary to configure your Mac displays to use Thousands of colors (rather than Millions) before starting CrossOver. It might also be worth trying to run it in a virtual desktop window (Manage Bottles > Control Panel > winecfg > Graphics > Emulate a virtual desktop).

Oh, I hadn't actually expected a staff response! I'd mainly responded to this thread as a note to anyone else who might be trying to get the game to work.

Sorry, 'grinding halt' didn't mean a full lock up in this case. Just that everything suddenly becomes so slow that even trying to force quit seems to go on forever.

Well, one step up. The intro seems to work but everything still renders in a weird place and the characters don't appear to render at all. This is forcing software rendering as hardware rendering seemed to cause the computer to slow to almost a stand still.

Interestingly if I let it render in full screen in a virtual desktop I get the Up/down mirrored issue Svein was talking about. Hmm... now I've done that it seems to be rendering upside down mirrored in the window too. In fact, I just noticed that it isn't initially the wrong way up, the screen mirrors partway through the 'funcom' logo video.

I have some screenshots showing what's going on (barring the error message which I can't seem to get any more). I don't know if you'd want me to post them here (or in a pm) or if the description of what's going on is enough to tell what's happening.

I thought I might mention that this game was given "Bronze" status in the wine compatibility database. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1937

I'm using the Steam version within Crossover Games 7.2 for Mac.
Hard to describe, but the game works in windowed mode! I can get into the game, see the intro...etc.
Big problem is everything appears at the top of the window. The bottom 90% of the window is black, and the top 10% of the window contains the bottom 90% of the playable area of the game. The rest "exists" in that I can drag my mouse up there and click stuff, but you can't see it! Strange...

I tried the Demo on Steam in cxgames 7.2 on Ubuntu 64 and it didn't display the main characters. You could only see the shadow outlines. The exit dialog was also not displayed. I put up the screen-shots.

I use cxgames 8.1.4 under mac osx 10.6.2, and I get this exact same thing.
