Graphics Problems (not fixed with tips&tricks section)

Hi, I have the elder 4CD Version of The Longest Journey, When I got my hands on CrossOver (9) I tried installing it, no problem on the installation, then I got DirectX from this page as I couldn't install it from the installation program, quite strange... anyway, after this installation Ran the game, at first, no problem, I decided to configure the graphics at the toppest quality, then, "Start Game" and what's my surprise when the game runs perfectly, dialogues and all run good, but it's impossible to see any of the characters, April, the Ancient Woman and the 2 guys asking her for a story, the background, the title and the intro video is seen perfectly, as the mouse and the menu, it's only the characters, and the ˝exit game" window, but that's the smallest of the problems, I've tried with the tips&tricks section of this page, I've downloaded elder versions of this program to see if it's a compatibility problem with my version, also tried installing it on a Win98 and 2000 bottles, no way... I leave you my computer specifications.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06Ghz

RAM: 4GB

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GS

Do you think it's graphic card configuration problems? If it's the problem, please tell me how to configure it out of the game...

Thanks for the answers

I leave you a couple of screenshots to see my problem...

Hello,

I'm experiencing the same issue as posted above. Everything else runs well, sounds and video are great and as best I can tell the interactive portion works fine, but the issue is the character models; I only see shadows of where characters are supposed to be or no characters at all.

I'm hoping if it appears this close to working, someone at Codeweavers might take pity and revisit this game to confirm that nothing more can be done to get it to silver or gold (especially with the Dreamfall Chapters KickStarter campaign happening atm and doing phenomenally well so far, might surge in popularity? Maybe I'm just hoping.:)).

I'm using a trial version of Crossover atm (but regardless will buy full version). I'm using a WinXP bottle.

My Mac info if it helps (It's an older one):

System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz

Also, I'm using the DVD version of The Longest Journey game.

Thank you for any response or guidance. I'll continue to comb through the forums for more answers too.

The inability to see the character models has been the problem with TLJ for a long time now (you can see my Linux screenshots from like CX 9...). I've been testing it for a while. Whatever seems to be causing it seems to be obscure.

BTW what version of TLJ are you using? A digital download or a CD? I've only tested with the digital download from GOG.
EDIT: I see you say you used the DVD version. So know you are encountering the same issue as w/ the digital download.

Also you can always vote for this application. The more votes an app get the more priority codeweavers can give it.

Octavian Voicu figured out most of the causes a while back and even put together some patches, but they were never included into Wine and there has been no follow-up since.

The patches don't seem to work with the latest Wine release so things are pretty stuck until someone else takes a look at it.

Just wanted to thank you for the info and reply David. I'll definitely vote it up! It's good to know the issue is all across the board, at least .:)

Aw, I wish the patch worked but at least I can peek and better understand whats happening. Thank you for the info and reference Benjamin!

So I take it we are stuck playing this in a VM then huh. Oh well.
