At the moment version 0.01b of the game only runs up to the loading screen. After getting to the loading screen, the game crashes/exits out back to Steam.
That said, apparently several people have had luck getting The Forrest to work on Linux with what appears to be a pretty vanilla Wine 1.7.19 setup.
The v0.03 update allows the game to launch and no longer freeze at the "Loading..." screen; however, loading may take some time (up to 5 minutes) when starting a new game.
I've had better luck with an unsupported install of Steam on a Win7 bottle, than I have on an XP bottle.
Overall the game is borderline playable at medium settings on a GTX770 under Mavericks. Intermittent freezing/locking up persists however, frustrating extended game play.
