Similar to an old and locked thread (Torsten Lüttgert's), my installation goes like this:
Start with a fresh bottle (I've tried Windows 7, both 32bit and 64bit)
Install MSXML3.0, Core Fonts, and Visual C++ 2010.
Have tried with and without Visual C++ 2015 (which CrossOver adds automatically) and DirextX Modern.
Regardless, the following happens on running Install_ESO.exe:
Windows comes up "The Elder Scrolls Online is preparing to install", and the blue bars progress and the percentage display counts up.
It reaches 99% then the window closes.
A second later a new window comes up with window decoration "The Elder Scrolls Online", but the window remains black for the half second or so before it vanishes, and everything stops. If I'm running with a virtual desktop, it closes almost straight after this window closes.
Running with a log, I get the message:
fixme:font:get_outline_text_metrics failed to read full_nameW for font L"Ani"!
I can't seem to find reference to this error in Wine doco, but can find plenty of Windows people saying this is what happens when one uses TrueType font specific stuff on a font that isn't TrueType.
Any ideas?
Slightly off-topic: Many forum posts here say to get the certificate from shotty's wordpress site, but wordpress doesn't exist on it any more and the links fail. I installed the one in "Dependencies: The Elder Scrolls Online".
