Game not Launching, Black Screen

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04, and when I try to launch the game from the launcher, I will click Play, then nothing. I will get a black screen, but nothing else. Anyone else see this?

Do you have installed "directx9 modern" in the bottle ?

Are you launching the game in directX mode, without directX installed ?

I do get black screen when I enable "OPENGL" from "UserSettings.txt" file. While "D3D9" gives random crashes. I managed one time somehow run game with "OPENGL" settings and I played many hours without crash. I didn't change any settings and now with same settings game won't go further than black screen. I do get some music but not intros for example.

I had the same thing in my bottle that I have had for some time. What I did see was that the usual culprit is DX9 not being right. Unfortunately the way I had that bottle setup was via a custom install using Win7 as the bottle type, which is incompatible with DX9 Modern.

I reinstalled using the CrossTie, and afterwards was required to install the Thawte digital cert, and change things to OpenGL. And as a longtime learnt precaution, I force quit the bottle before relaunching the Launcher.

Things worked quite well this time. So, something has changed with one of the patches that broke something I tweaked from back in the day.

I've always had that too. I found an easy workaround though: as soon as the screen goes black (not before) I switch to a console (ctrl-alt-F1) then, when the console has had time to appear onscreen, I switch back to X (alt-F7) and it works.

My preparatory steps to get the game working in the first place were:
– to copy the install files from a windows installation to a clean wine prefix (not using codeweaver, sorry ^^ );
– then I winetricks'd vcrun2010 mslxml3 d3dx11_43 corefonts;
– then added the certificate through wine control (that's obviously a task the installer does… but since the installer wouldn't run under linux!);
– regedit'ed the video ram size.
Then my launcher would be fine and the game run well enough.

Oops, I forgot to mention: quite obviously, my renderer is set to OpenGL, I never touched that part.
