Experiencing drops to 0 FPS? Audio issues? Game randomly hanging? Solution inside

I was experiencing weird issues w/ the game in Crossover 13.1.2/Ubuntu 12.10/Quadro K2000M/NVIDIA 331.67

Game would run really really good but eventually crashed out after 5,10,15,20 minutes.. didn't seem to be any commonality other than a mysterious D3D failure in the log.

Disabling flipping and swapping in nvidia-settings didn't really have an impact on stability. Did some digging around in the settings and found that the game runs perfectly stable with the following added to ~/Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/UserSettings.txt

SET GraphicsDriver.7 "OPENGL"
SET RequestedNumThreads "0"
SET BACKGROUND_AUDIO "1"

You probably want to disable the mouse focus checkbox as well, otherwise input will go away from time to time if you have things running in the background. So far, so good. Game has been running with these settings for over an hour.

You may need to reauth your machine, it seems that adding a UserSettings.txt for this title causes the configuration to be reset. Needed to rebind some keys as well. Well worth it, though!

Hello what do you mean by "the mouse focus checkbox". This issue is very annoying I'd realy like to solve it.

Beside I found that RequestedNumThreads set to number of CPU minus one permits to increase performances a lot but some people encounter crashes with this setting.
With RequestedNumThreads to 0 the CPU limits the GPU.

hi
I have a quad core cpu so i tried to put "3" and game crashed after a few seconds.
Then i have put "2" and game crashed after a long time.
so i have set it to "1" and no more crash, but after several minutes of play, maybe one hour, i have a performance degradation that disepear if i restart the game.
With "0" performances are slower !!
With -1 game crashing.

So with "1" i can run the game in high settings, but i need windows for rvr because its unplayable under linux.
But for pve linux is fine :)

Well great news, from today's patchnote

Mac Client

General

Fixed a memory leak in the Mac client that would cause the game

to crash or perform poorly over time.

This fixed my bug under linux :)

Game runs perfectly in high settings !!!

I've noticed that this game has a habit of hanging after a while even when both threading options are set to zero in the usersettings.txt file.

To fix this, first make sure you're running via OpenGL (Direct3d9 may work, but it's unstable!), then open the crossover bottle management page for ESO, and turn off Performance Enhanced Graphics. This will increase stability, and on my laptop it also reduces heat generation.

Additionally, if you are having trouble with white noise in the sound, try removing the bottle and reinstalling. This problem is usually tied to installing more than just the base prereqs for me, that includes forgetting to untick boxes in the install process.

Another note: Audio problems can appear after a bit of play on any Ubuntu based OS. To fix this:

1: start the game with the pasuspender
2: exit the game.
3: go into manage bottles>control panel>Wine Configuration
4: Select the Audio tab.
5: set a specific audio service for each of the options. Analogue is always better, and on my system is the only one that works.
6: Test the audio, apply, and exit.
7: Launch the game. It should have better audio support.
