The Elder Scrolls Online (BETA)

I've submitted this game, as I am currently beta testing (I was one of the lucky ones :D ) and wanted to see how it would do under Crossover. It actually ran! Not only that, with minor graphics adjustments (the usual, reducing some of the frills and such) it ran comparably to how it runs in Windows.

The game is currently beta, and though I can't talk about it nor submit any screenshots, it does run and hopefully at release, it will run even better.

  • Install MS XML parser
  • Install core fonts
  • Install Directx9 (this is the only version I could get to run.)

It seems the game installs whatever else it needs.

When I run the launcher I get a dialog box with the error: "Certificate authentication failed, please re-install to correct the problem." I have not found a way to circumvent this issue. I installed all of the packages you mentioned.

What OS / version (and distro, if Linux) are you using?

(And, actually, @NeoGraven, how about you?)

I'm also getting this error.
Mac 10.8.4 Crossover 12.5.0.27173
I tried installing rootsupd from MS and .NET 3.5 but no help

I'm using Gentoo AMD64 and Crossover 12.5.0.

I am using Kubuntu 13.04, on an AMD A6-APU with a Radeon 7240HD (laptop) using the ATI drivers provided by Kubuntu (under 'Additional Drivers')

I have also tried this on OpenSuSE 13 however, but it would not work. I suspect there could be MESA/X lib differences between OSS and Kubuntu.

On my current set up, the launcher will sometimes burp so I have to close it and open it back up again.. inconvenient, but it will eventually log in 2 out of 5 tries.

Aren't they going to be coming out with a Mac client for the game?

It seems like the launcher is trying to do some sort of host verification that involves crypto32.dll. The verification is failing for some reason.

I installed the launcher in a virtual machine and allowed it to download and install all of the patches. I then copied that data out into my Linux ESO install. I still can't start the launcher but I am able to start the game client directly.

A little warning... don't mention Linux in any posts on their forum. It will be the last post you make there.

Apparently, the newer launcher doesn't work under Crossover. Longer workaround is to follow what John did above.

Why try to run Elder Scrolls Online with Crossover ?
This game have a native Mac client.

I dont understand 😉

Is the problem related to this bug:

The Mac client hasn't been released yet, and the game is currently undergoing a limited beta test--so people want to get in as soon as they can, any way they can.

In my case I am using Linux so the Mac client is not helpful to me.

also got into the beta this week, seems its the same issue as starcitizen but that is 2 issues:

  • the patch (is it in the current crossover version)
  • UTN_USERFirst_Object_Root_CA.crt (and that is one I for sure can't find on opensuse 12.3)

I'm getting the "certificate authentication failed, please re-install to correct the problem" message as well. Xubuntu 13.10.

I've tried to follow the WINE thread. As I can't patch Crossover (can I?) I don't see, how they figured the actual certificate they had to import.
+crypt,+cryptasn debugoutput just gives me the system calls with everything (parameters, ...) in Hex.

For the sake of it, I've installed the UTN certificate in my local keychain, but doesn't solve it.
Any ideas on how to figure out the correct certificate?

where did you even get the cert from ?

I can get the ESO launcher to start by replacing crossover's crypt32.dll.so with the one from patched wine (1.7.12 version, not sure if significant). On my system (testing amd64 gentoo) it was not necessary to install any additional certificates for this, that part of the wine bug report seems to be a separate issue.

Sadly, I still can't get the actual game to launch. After completing the download and patching, hitting the 'Launch' button only causes the button (and some other stuff) to be greyed out for a few seconds. This is the same result I see with wine, fwiw. ☹️

I installed msxml3, corefonts and directx9 beforehand, and let the ESO installer install VC++2010 and some directx like the top poster suggested.

Where did you get the certificate? (would it be possible to for you to link the file)

Fix's http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2014-January/102446.html

this is how I got the launcher to work under opensuse:

vi /etc/ssl/certs/Thawte_CS_CA_G2.pem

and run:

update-ca-certificates -v -f

Getting the game to lauch:

/home/user/Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/

had to create a file called UserSettings.txt

and put the line

SET GraphicsDriver.7 "OPENGL"

in it.

Like the previous poster said.

This is the process I used and now the installer is working.
