The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Forum

Okay, so I decided to make another post for my new problem. Mostly to help others find it with the search function. So here's my problem. I can start a new game, make the character, etc etc. I can even play a little, although it seems to want to crash sometimes. Primarily though, the main problem I am having is when I reload Oblivion, and I click continue play, or try to load a saved, it immediately crashes. No thinking, no processing, just immediately craps out.

Running on a Macbook: 10.6.4 Snow leopard.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Other users report success using the Steam version of the game. I don't know if this is one of the games for which Steam allows you to enter the CD key so you don't have to repurchase. It's something worth looking into.

Another possibility is that our Steam installation profile installs other stuff into the bottle which helps Oblivion work better. So, you can try just installing Steam into the bottle with Oblivion, even if you don't intend to use Steam with it. (You can even cancel the installation of Steam and tell CrossOver to skip it, since by then it's already installed the prerequisites.)

I'm not sure if steam would let me re-download it for free with my key, but my friend does have Oblivion on his computer, which was downloaded from steam. I copied his oblivion.exe file and replaced mine with it. It WORKED!!.

However. I have one issue left. Now I can load games and save without problem. However, I was wanting to lower my resolution to make the game run a little smoother. But when I lower the resolution, my mouse drops to the bottom of the screen in the main menu, and won't lift up.

Emulate a virtual desktop will not let me load Oblivion in full screen mode.

The only way I've been able to make it work is if it's the same res as my desktop.

Haven't tried setting my desktop res to the same res I wish to run the game. Imagine that would work. But it would be annoying to have to set desktop res every time I wish to play.

Any ideas? Thank for your advice btw. HUGE HELP!!!
