Installs but won't play properly.

I had no problems with the install, and the game launched just fine to the main menu. However, at the character creation screen the game slowed way down and there were massive graphical glitches. One inside the starting prison cell, I found the same graphical glitches (sort of an odd, black shading all over everything) but I also noticed that I could face the back wall or ceiling and things would return to normal. However, most viewing angles caused the glitches and the slowdown to return.

After installing Shivering Isles and the latest patch, the problem persists, but now it crashes to desktop after a few seconds.

Enabling GLSL via regedit makes the graphics look much better (better lighting and shading) but the odd glitches persist, and now the slowdown is far worse, even when facing the rear wall and eliminating the glitches.

I have just installed Oblivion GOTY edition on 7.2.0 running OS 10.5.2. I set the video preferences in the Options dialog to Very Low -- and ti runs! No problem with the black shading errors or being very slow. I did not have to do any hacks to INI files.

Hi there Clocknova,
This would appear to be a problem/issue with your graphics card, what chip/card are you using?
You could try adding this entry to your Registry : /HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Softwhare/Wine/Direct3D "DirectDrawRenderer" set to "opengl"
If this doesn't exist then create it as above.

It works fine on my mid 2008 iMac with no graphics distortions whatsoever except for the whole display looking washed out but that is a display problem not a fault of the game.

Hope that helps :)

I'm using an early 2008 Macbook Pro with the GeForce 8600M GT with 512 Mb VRAM. I don't have time to do a reinstall of Oblivion at the moment, but when I get to it I'll let you know how it goes.

Thank you for the suggestions you posted! I can now run Oblivion -- after months of trying and failing.

Can you help me out step-by-step with the whole 'adding this to the Registry'? I'm kind of a computer noob :/
