I've spent hours trying to increase my fps, since this is the only computer I have at the moment and I think running at a lower res in windowed mode should make everything run a lot better. Unfortunately, when I try to run it in windowed, a blank window pops up, and then another window saying "Oblivion.exe has encountered a serious problem" and so on. Is there any way to fix this?

..by 'windowed mode', do you mean setting that via the ingame
options. or do you mean by enabling emulated virtual desktop?..

...well, I'd try the emulated virtual desktop and leave
the game fullscreen mode -- if you're using MacOS 10.7.x
you'll have to pay attention to the following ;
