Crashes on launch/after first credits.

It crashes. And I've tried what's on the site, but it still crashes.
I thought this was Gold Medal? Or am I doing something wrong? cause I've gotten a Bronze Medal to work perfectly but this just won't.

I'm on a Macbook – 2.4gz + 2gb ram

Thanks in advance.

Now, for some magic reason it's doesn't crash, but the screen is all black in the menu. If I click the arrow keys left and right I hear a sound like I'm going through the menu titles.

HDR is disabled, so there must be another reason.

I sometimes need to try 2 or 3 times before the game actually launches. It's annoying but something I can live with. It feels like a race condition, but I cannot pinpoint the cause.

I can't really help with the black screen issue, as I'm on linux. Did you try the mac tips (getting out of the sewers) in the tips and tricks section? It seems like you need to tweak some graphics section in your bottle.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you and hope you'll get it sorted. If / when you do, be sure to post it here so we can help out other who might have similar issues.

I was having this problem, too, with the game crashing. Try making these tweaks to the Oblivion INI:

bForce1XShaders=0
bSaveOnInteriorExteriorSwitch=0
SIntroSequence=
bUseWaterShader=0
bUseJoystick=0
bMusicEnabled=0

Unfortunately, it looks like it was the music that had to be disabled, which is unfortunate because Oblivion has such great music. Anyway, give these a try and see what happens.

Also, if this is your first time using Oblivion on CXG, make sure to go to the WineConfig in your Oblivion bottle and deselect either or both of the "Allow the window manager to (control/decorate) the windows" boxes. This will prevent a bug that forces the mouse to the bottom of the screen. It only exists if they are both selected, but I haven't seen any effect of leaving either checked, anyway.

EDIT: More tips can be found on this site at: http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/cat/?app_id=2407;tips=1

I also found this page helpful, despite being geared towards Linux: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Linux#Starting_Oblivion

In the Steam settings, disable in game Steam community. I was in the same position as you, and it worked for me.

Thank you John! That worked perfectly (except no in game music).

I posted your tip under the tips and tricks section.

Glad I could help. I ran across a mod just a moment ago that reminded me of this thread. It's a fix for a black screen bug that affect NVIDIA cards.

I've personally never had this issue, so I can't honestly say it will work, but if the problem is persistent, here's another possible fix.

Gentile: While I'm flattered that you added it to the Tips & Tricks section, I feel as though there may have been a miscommunication of sorts. The INI tweaks I recommended are actually already present in that section under "Installation and Launch Issues (incl. Steam)". The only thing I mentioned that isn't on that page is the tip regarding the mouse, which I was puzzled as to why that wasn't there before.

I can't seem to find an Oblivion.ini file. There's an Oblivion_default.ini file, but tweaking it doesn't seem to change anything, even when I rename it to Oblivion.ini.

Any ideas?

I think it'll be in (your home folder)/Documents/My Documents/My Games/Oblivion.ini. If you're modifying the file that's in the same directory as the game's .exe that won't change anything.

John's .ini fix didn't help me. Steam version crashes on launch (2010 13" MBP.)

Also, I couldn't find "bSaveOnInteriorExteriorSwitch" in my .ini file.

Anything else to try?

Please excuse my level of ignorance here, I'm used to programs such as Parallels and SheepShaver, but this is my first experience with CrossOver.

I'm on a 5 year Old MacBookPro running 10.6.8, downloaded CrossOver, set up Steam on it and downloaded OblivionGotY edition via Steam. I can launch Oblivion (via Steam) to the initial menu splash screen where it gives me a list of play/options/help etc. I can select the options menu, but as soon as I click "play" it brings up a completely white window and gives me the following warning: "The program Oblivion.exe. has encountered a serious error and needs to close." Game music plays in the background.

I have made all the changes to the Oblivion.ini file that were possible - one line in my .ini file was already correct and I did not have the bUseJoystick line at all. Should I have just copied and pasted the lines to the bottom of the .ini file?

Am completely at a loss here, I'd like to buy/support Crossover Games, but this is a gold standard product that isn't launching and I'm not quite sure why.
