9.0 Weirdness?

I'm seeing some weird TF2 issues with the 9,0 beta. In the tema selection "room" and the Map intro screen, there's a lot of see through features. I should probably reinstall everything before complianing a lot, but I fiugred I would ask (since it is a Beta) if anybody else was seeing this.

Did you have this problem before updating to 9.0b? Also some screenshots would be nice.

Did not have the problem with 8.1.4 yesterday.

I can't view Steam at all. It loads, and then I see small info boxes that say "Blah blah is in game" and "You have been invited to blah blah". What should I do?

On loading steam, it took a while for the new games "tab" to work. It did eventually load for me with the new 9.0 beta though (see unsupported downloads). Other than that, I'm not sure what to do.

I'm having the same problem as JZ where I can't actually see the main steam client. Just the little boxes that pop up.

As noted in the Steam forum, a new version of Steam was released which doesn't work properly with CrossOver Games 8.x. We have made a beta version of CrossOver Games 9 available to download which does support the new Steam. See that post for details.

Thanks, works great for me.

TF2 is crashing constantly for me today with 9.0, using both the previous Vista bottle (see earlier posts in this thread) and a new XP bottle.

I considered started a new thread with this, but figured all the 9,0 issues should go in one place for now.

What platform, OS version, GPU?

Have you tried setting all of the game's video settings to lowest to see if the crashing goes away or diminishes? If it does, you can then experiment with turning settings up to identify which impacts stability.

It is known that texture detail level tends to impact memory use, and that TF2 under CrossOver Games can easily get into trouble with exhausting the process address space and being unable to allocate memory. (This is not the same as your system having free RAM.) So, I recommend keeping texture detail at low.

So far, so good

We have discovered one possible cause of crashes in Source-engine games under CrossOver Games 9.0b4. The games may have saved values in the registry that are now causing problems. You can try the following to move those registry settings aside, to force the games to start from the default values:

  • Open the Run Command dialog. On the Mac, this is in CrossOver's Programs menu. On Linux, this is called Run Windows Command.
  • In the dialog, select the bottle with Steam in it
  • For the command, type "regedit"
  • Click Run
  • In the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Valve
  • Select the Valve key
  • From the Edit menu, select Rename
  • Change the name to "ValveOld" (really, anything other than "Valve" will do)
  • Exit the registry editor

After that, try launching your games again. If they don't crash, you may need to reapply any changes you had made to their settings (e.g. video settings).

Ookay. You had said the problem persisted even with a new bottle, which is why I discounted the possibility of stale registry settings causing your crashes. Oh, well. Glad you found something that works. 😊

You know how configuration changes can be. Sometimes the old slips in despite your best efforts.

I got it to work by following these instructions, then changing my steam client to the beta client. Now TF2 L4D and others are working normal as per CXgames

Well, it's happening again. I supopse I spoke too soon. It's usually happening between maps - game ends, crash. I'd be more willing to believe the textures statement (which I'll readily admit may still be true) if I hadn't been running without this issue before the new Steam came out though...
